Informed Decision Making is ALWAYS a hot topic, but in recent weeks there has been multiple stories come to light about the importance of your rights as a patient about the care you receive.

✨As much as we have the right to autonomy, the provider has the same right to autonomy. If they don’t feel they can move forward with your wishes safely, they have a right to refuse. We cannot expect to have it for ourselves if we aren’t willing to see the other person has it as well.

✨Your intuition is your biggest tool in your tool box. If something feels off, it probably is. No one, I mean no one cares more about that sweet little life than you. And no one cares more about your life than you do.

This is why it is sooooo important to find a provider that will align with what your desires are. I know there are times where we cannot find that provider. And this is where your support team come into play.

🙋‍♀️Look into hiring a doula!
🗺️You may have to travel a longer distance for a hospital that can meet your needs and expectations.

You’ve got this mama. And if you don’t feel like you do…reach out and I can hopefully point you in the right direction!

I’ve always been a “go hard” girlie. Whatever lights me on fire, I dive in head first without noticing how deep or shallow waters are. All in.

And it pretty much works out.

Except my physical body pays the price. The storing whatever I experience in my body because my brain doesn’t have time to process it…that’s what eventually catches up to me.

But for the past 6 months I’ve been working to choose gentleness.

That’s what I tell the mothers I work with to do…so why don’t I choose it for myself?

So here I am, doing my best to practice what I preach…but it’s going to take time to teach myself to slow down and I don’t have to strive.

I can slow down and notice the rays of sun coming through the clouds. I can feel the earth beneath my feet. I can smile at a stranger. I can be present. Not looking back, not pushing forward.

Birthworkers, be gentle with yourself. Mothers, be gentle with yourself. There is only one of you and we need you to be here and be well.

TAKE A CHILDBIRTH CLASS!

🧠You don’t know what you don’t know…and pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum is where you NEED to know all you can to make informed decisions for you and your baby.

I have seen firsthand in my own practice how education impacts a birth outcomes.

✨2024-optional childbirth education ➡️ 31 out of 44 births were inductions

✨2025-childbirth education included in my birth services ➡️ 5 out of 43 births were inductions and less cesareans than the previous year.

📚Any childbirth education is good. But an in person class where you can ask all of the questions and get in depth evidence based answers.

💕Getting education from your doula…even better.

📝 Childbirth Ed preps you for writing your birth plan…and we will touch on that a little later…

🙋‍♀️ Have questions? Reach out, I’ll be happy to answer them. No strings attached…just want to help point you in the right right direction!
