Corneotherapy is an outside-in approach.

It prioritizes restoring the stratum corneum, allowing secondary skin responses to improve as the barrier recovers.

Unlike inside-out strategies, it places barrier integrity at the center of skin function and treatment response.

It supports the skin as a system, not just a collection of symptoms.

Based on the book Corneotherapy – Link Between Dermatology & Cosmetics by Dr. Hans Lautenschläger, a founder of the International Association for Applied Corneotherapy (I.A.C.).

Taught by I.A.C. certified educators Dr. Erin Madigan-Fleck & Lindsey Baillie.

This course is COA and NCEA approved for 10 credit hours.

Many professionals feel frustrated by education that prioritizes protocols without explaining the reasoning behind them.

Corneotherapy by dermaviduals®US was developed to address that gap.

It is grounded in decades of research on skin structure, barrier organization, ingredient chemistry, and biological response. The goal is not memorization, but understanding.

When you understand why skin behaves the way it does, decision-making becomes clearer, safer, and more consistent, particularly when working with compromised or reactive skin.

One of the key principles of Corneotherapy is that not all skincare products support the skin barrier, even if they seem effective in the short term.

Certain ingredients can disrupt barrier repair and increase irritation, especially in compromised skin, with damage often accumulating over time.

Corneotherapy prioritizes formulations that support the skin’s natural repair processes rather than creating temporary surface effects - especially when treating dry, sensitive, inflamed, or barrier-impaired skin.

For years, the skin barrier was overlooked despite its essential role in skin health and protection.

Today, we understand that the stratum corneum plays a key role in inflammation, sensitivity, and recovery. When the barrier is compromised, skin becomes more reactive. When supported correctly, skin can function more effectively.

Corneotherapy places barrier repair and protection at the center of treatment decisions.

Grape Seed Oil in corneotherapeutic formulations

Plant-derived lipid with a high linoleic acid content (58–78%) and the presence of oleic acid.

Used in formulations for dry and atopic skin, where lipid composition and barrier compatibility are relevant.

Integrated into DMS base systems or applied locally, depending on the formulation

Hamamelis Extract is a plant-derived ingredient used in corneotherapeutic formulations. It contains flavonoids, tannins (including hamamelitannin and ellagitannin), gallic acid, and essential oils.

The extract exhibits anti-inflammatory and mildly astringent effects and supports the regeneration of superficial skin irritations. It is used in formulations for cracked, stressed, and sensitive skin.

It can be incorporated into DMS base creams or gels or applied locally as a concentrate.

What is often perceived as instant results is not necessarily true skin improvement. In many cases, visible changes are temporary physiological responses rather than structural correction.

Dehydration can temporarily smooth the surface. Vasodilation can create the appearance of improved circulation. Plumping effects can create a false impression of hydration.

These responses do not reflect improved skin function.

Long-term results depend on restoring the skin’s ability to regulate itself. Without this, visible improvements remain temporary.

What most professionals still overlook in skin correction:
It is not about the number of actives used, but whether the skin is structurally capable of responding to them.

Without barrier restoration, results remain temporary. Skin correction is structural work — not stimulation.

Skin regeneration is not something you induce. It is an inherent process of the skin.

Why DMS matters in skin treatment 🧬

Most treatments focus on visible symptoms, while underlying barrier dysfunction remains unaddressed.

DMS (Derma Membrane Structure) is designed to mimic the structure of the stratum corneum and integrate into the skin’s lipid matrix, rather than remaining on the surface.

This supports proper skin function instead of temporarily masking imbalances.

DMS-based formulations are free from conventional emulsifiers that may disrupt and extract essential barrier lipids.

No intact barrier = no long-term results.

Barrier repair is often approached incorrectly.

In your clients, a compromised barrier does not require increased use of actives, as this may further increase skin reactivity.

Barrier-oriented care focuses on:
— reducing unnecessary interventions
— supporting the lipid matrix
— restoring physiological skin function

The objective is to stabilize and normalize your client’s skin function to achieve consistent and predictable outcomes.
