ok so baby number two genuinely humbled me, and i say that as a working mom of two who literally thought she had it figured out after the first one 🤡
here’s the thing tho, researchers have found two kids doesn’t actually get easier the way you’d expect, you’re managing two humans at totally different stages at the same time, so if you feel like you’re barely holding it together, you’re not making it up
here’s what i stopped doing the second time around that i thought was non negotiable with my first...
buying all the gear, skipped the bottle warmer wipe warmer fancy humidifier and anything that required its own cleaning routine, steam showers for congestion, zip sleepers over cute outfits, hand me downs over new everything, and honestly we thrived
caring about a 3am blowout, double sheet the crib with a waterproof liner in between, peel the top layer and go back to sleep in 60 seconds, saved my LIFE
humidifiers, ten minutes in a steamy bathroom clears congestion better than any $80 machine i bought the first time
leaving without a plan for my toddler during feeds, treasure box of special toys that ONLY come out during feeds and diaper changes, suddenly i’m not the villain and she looks forward to it ?!
sleeping with the baby’s crib sheet for a night before putting it on the mattress so it smells like me, baby settles soooo much faster, zero dollars
carrying everything in one diaper bag, i stocked both cars with a spare bag, changing pad, diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes, because with your second you WILL forget the bag and you will not feel bad about it lol
the second time around you stop performing motherhood and just start doing it, and honestly that’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me 🥺

as a working mom of 2, my mom brain used to feel like a
personality flaw, something i needed to push through with willpower and anotherrrr coffee 🤪
but then i started noticing it always hit at the exact same times of day, when i shutdown @ work, when there’s a dinner crisis, when it’s 3am and my mind won’t turn off, the “i’ll do it real quick !” moment that somehow took 90 minutes... IYKYK
and what i finally figured out is that all of those moments
share the same thing, it’s my brain running too many things at once with no system to offload any of them, no save button, no bookmark for where i left off, no second person who already knows what’s on the list so i’m not the only one holding it!!
so i did what working moms with a 9-5 and zero free hours do, i let the AI do the offloading for me, and these are the 7 prompts i now use every week to make sure my brain still works past 6pm 🫠

working mom of two with a 9-5, the sunday reset became this whole performance i was failing at, every sunday i’d light a candle and try to “get ahead” for 4 hours and still wake up monday completely in the hole, until i actually did the math…
73% of the cognitive household labor lands on moms according to a usc study, which means for every 100 tabs open in our family’s brain 73 were sitting in mine and 27 in my husband’s, no amount of sunday prep was going to fix a 73/27 split, so we stopped optimizing my sunday and rebuilt the actual system
four things actually moved the needle, a claude project i trained on our entire family (our kids’ school, our pediatrician, every login, every code) that takes my 90-second sunday voice memo and assigns items to me or my husband with deadlines and syncs to my google calendar and to-do list and emails us both a sunday briefing every monday at 6am, the eve rodsky fair play card method that gave every invisible task ONE clear owner so neither of us is mentally tracking it anymore, a gmail filter with a family color label that auto-forwards to my husband so we see the same emails in real time, and a 10-minute standing marriage meeting once a week to cover what’s coming before it hits
the wildest part is we’re both doing less work now, the work is just finally distributed correctly 🙏
