Congrats to for being ’s first solo male cover star - He was photographed by Micaiah Carter for the February issue! Do you agree with their cover choice, or do you think it should have gone to a male model?
Many aspiring models and models may not be aware that having the right PR is crucial in landing covers. Just because you’re a great model doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get lots of press. If you want to be a FAMOUS model, make sure to work hard and have the right team, including PR. I know, I’ve paid thousands for PR as well as worked hard to get my own free PR. Both are possible, it just depends on how much time you want to put into it.

Modeling 101:
I get hundreds of emails everyday, most of them saying similar things, but the ones that stand out are the emails/DMs that are sent with thought. When you’re a model you are the business, so your DMs and emails should be sent professionally.
I get so many unprofessional DMs/emails all day and they go straight to the trash.
Then today I started thinking that maybe I get a lot of unprofessional DM’s and emails from aspiring models because they don’t know any better? Maybe no one has taught them how to send a professional email. Maybe they don’t know how to add value to emails?
That’s when I knew I had to make a post about it. The most important thing you can do when reaching out to agencies, influencers, talent managers, photographers, or anyone else that can help you achieve your goals, is to message them with value. Meaning don’t expect someone to help you just because it’s your dream. Instead, message them by saying something like, “I love your Instagram account. If I can ever help you with ( insert your skill here), I’d love to work with you”.
This doesn’t just go for modeling, this goes for any business or professional email or DM that you’re sending blindly.
I know this industry can be tough and it’s annoying to send message after message with no response, but we all have to start somewhere. I didn’t get to where I am today with giving up after my first 50 messages. Eventually someone will give you a chance towards a goal. Still to this day I DM people I want to work and try to add as much value to the DM as possible - whether it’s for my new podcast, or just pitching someone a new business idea. I know that person or business owes me nothing, so I should give them a pretty good reason to respond!
Next time you’re sending out a professional email, ask yourself if you’re adding value and if the message stands out from the hundreds they may already be getting? Take your time. Reread your email several times before hitting send. That alone has saved me from so many mistakes or typos. No one is perfect, but we can always give it our best!

Believe in yourself. Invest in yourself.💕
Know the type of model you are or want to be ( fitness, youth, curve, fit, runway, hand, swimsuit, etc.), then start shooting with researched photographers you have access to. You can’t sit behind a computer or phone all day wishing to be a model without taking action.
If modeling is your passion or dream, but you haven’t researched photographers in your area yet, or shot enough new content lately, this needs to be your homework this week. A great way to find photographers is through Instagram. Take advantage of it. You can see their work, other legit models they’ve shot, as well as send them a quick DM asking their rates or if they’re interested in a trade shoot. Which in my experience, I have gotten quicker replies from photographers on Instagram vs email.
Believe in yourself and invest in yourself. You can’t afford not to!

Hi! My name is Heidi and before creating The Model Adviser or working in the industry, I was just like you. I didn't know where to start. I didn't know who to trust, I didn't know the secrets to great photos, and I sure the heck didn't have the money and time to waste or be ripped off. If I would have known then what I know today, I would have saved myself so much time, money and heartache! But I didn't, so I had to figure out how to be a successful model on my own.
Since then, I spent over 10yrs as a successful model and then used my experience and knowledge to help others by becoming a Beverly Hills based talent manager. I've been fortunate enough to know BOTH sides of the modeling business and I know what it takes to make it as a model. I've worked with GUESS, Elle Magazine, Pl***oy, MAXIM, E! Television, top toy companies like the Power rangers, the most prestigious modeling agencies in world and much more.
I get tons and tons of emails every day from aspiring models all over the world asking for advice and if I can manage or help them in some way. I wanted to help, but I was becoming so overwhelmed with managing my models that there way no way I had time to answer even 1% of the emails I was getting. So I decided to do something about it.
