Growing up in Hillsmere, this man and his wonderful family were our next door neighbors. As a kid I had absolutely no idea what a big deal Mr. Cantello actually was. He was just a super fun grandpa next door that treated my younger brother and I like one of his own. We spent so many summer days playing in his field and running through his yard and in and out of their house getting drinks and enjoying his jokes. One of my biggest regrets is losing touch with him and his wonderful wife when we moved away. Mr and Mrs Cantello were the absolute nicest people and their kids were like older siblings to us. I’m so sad to hear he passed away but so glad he has been reunited with his wife and son.

Legendary doesn’t even begin to describe him. ❤️

Legendary Navy cross country coach Al Cantello dies at 92 Al Cantello was a Marine veteran who spent 55 years at the Naval Academy, 50 as the coach of Navy’s men’s cross country team. He died Wednesday at 92 after a brief illness.
