Just for the record, this article has some valid points but not all of us nurses are trying to make a sale on youth and weight loss. There are a lot of nurses like myself who honestly want to offer a low cost alternative to an ER visit for a simple infusion of NS and some Zofran ….Im without insurance now and a 200.00 vs a 2000.00 bill sounds better to me.
I take vitals before and after. I listen to lung sounds. I check for edema. And you are seen by my medical director for a quick 15 minute tele visit to give clearance for other therapies such as migraine headaches and allergic reactions (honestly, that’s a 911/ED visit imo but we do have Benadryl for simple mild reactions).
I’ve been an ED nurse and a Medic and I can safely say that this is a really nice way to get a pick me up when we can’t keep ourselves hydrated by mouth.
