Every end is a new beginning.
Today marks the final day of service for J. Gordon Designs. We are closing the month of August for a refresh. When we reopen after Labor Day, we will be branded . a.salon will service clientele in both Lincoln Park and Pilsen. During August, all Lincoln Park clients are welcome to visit us in Pilsen.
Amy and Rudy would like to thank all of the J. Gordon clients and staff that have made this salon a magical place for +47 years. A special thank you to for helping us as new owners over the last 5 months.

, in the heart of Pilsen (1301 West 18th Street) since 2018, will be cutting and coloring more hair in Chicago with the acquisition of J. Gordon Designs.

Jerry Gordon founded his eponymous salon in 1974, focusing on world class service and luxury hair care. Jerry and the team have been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Mademoiselle, Elle, exposure on the Oprah Winfrey Show, NPR and have received numerous industry awards. Since Jerry’s passing in 2015, led the team and preserved the world-class reputation of J. Gordon Designs. However, in order to bring the salon forward, Karen believed the salon would greatly benefit from new owners - specifically a husband and wife team - and felt that a.salon’s Amy and Rudy Moser are the right people to lead J. Gordon Designs into the future.
a.salon is a color specialist with 18 years of experience in some of the country’s top salons. Rudy holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota and has worked for lifestyle pioneers, including Dyson, LG, Electrolux, and Umbra. Rudy and Karen serve together on the Board of Cosmetologists Chicago. Amy and Rudy have a beautiful 5-year-old son and it is “their time.”

Amy and Rudy will retain the J. Gordon Designs name and the existing team. Karen Gordon will staying on as a colorist and will continue to grow her trichology/hair loss business.

J. Gordon Designs will also embrace a.salon’s eco-friendly approach. We are now part of Green Circle Salons, meaning we will recycle up to 95% of all salon byproducts, including hair, excess hair color, color packaging, plastic and foils. All hair product lines sold and used by the team will be packaged using recycled materials, including plastic trash removed from the oceans. We will be changing product lines to .murphy due to their commitment to paraben and cruelty-free ingredients, along with vegan and sulphate-free options too.
