Empowered to Captivate

This phrase has taken on so much meaning for me during my Captivating journey. I have learned how to go out of my comfort zone and break the barrier of questioning the unknown. Through this, I have also learned that my true authentic self is wonderful and amazing and I shouldn't let ANYONE tell me any different.
Staying true to myself and letting my personality shine has been refreshing during this journey and I love being able to bring that to the table throughout the process.

I will continue to stay true to myself, showcase my personality, and always remain an inspiration and leader to those around me and beyond using my empowerment to captivate as part of my driving force whether in pageantry, professionally, or personally.

Day 9 of the : word that describes me.

💕Determined💕

I have always remained determined in whatever I pursue personally or professionally. I became determined to grow professionally in the dental field and made the decision to pursue my dental hygiene degree last year. I didn’t make it into the program this application cycle but I am still determined to keep trying until I reach my end goal. I’m so excited to see where this journey takes me and I intend on graduating with honors and going on to get my bachelors and masters.

I’ve been determined to pursue my dreams in pageantry and never give up no matter how hard it may get or how challenging it may be. My crown is out there and I am determined to be the next National Ms. Captivating and am doing everything I can to make this dream a reality. This journey has been so inspiring and memorable and I’m so excited for what’s to come.

I’ve always been determined to achieve my fitness goals and I am so proud of myself for achieving over 20 Peloton rides and I cannot wait to hit my 50th ride ((I plan on taking a live studio class in NYC. Hopefully with either Ally Love, Cody Rigsby, or Kendall Toole.)) I am so proud of how much I have achieved and where I’m going next!

Determination has driven me on some of the best journeys and it always reminds me that with determination I CAN achieve my goals and make my dreams reality.

Day 8 of the : Be You, Be Different, Be Captivating. Which one do I relate to the most.

Be You AND Be Different

I have struggled to fit in most of my life and one day I woke up and said “the beat of my own drum is the best beat. Why would I change it?!”

I have always believed in being my true authentic self. Finding who you are can be a journey in itself but when you find it and embrace it, it feels amazing! It's also super fun to be different.

I am the girl who loves to wear makeup, heels, and get her nails done but love to go to the archery range.

I am the girl who loves Star Wars and knows the original trilogy line for line. I can name most tunes from the 80's, 90's and 2000's at the drop of the hat (people have called me the walking Shazam!)

I am the one who embraces my love for Disney, cosplay, and also has an appreciation for watching a NASCAR race (I watch for the pit crew 🤣).

I absolutely LOVE to snowboard in the winter and can't wait to do more camping and hunting with my fiancé.

I love wearing cute feather headbands to work and making my patient's smile or wearing a really fun bow because why not?!

I love wearing friendship bracelets and have gifted to people I see while I am out and about.

I was told a lot that who I am is just weird or too out of the box or not the "normal", but the way I see it, its super cool to be different and being me is so much fun!

I am the best bag of Skittles you could ever have!!!!

Day 6 of the 12 days to Captivate: Favorite Quote

"Some dream it, some do it, some do both"-Walt Disney

As you may have noticed I am a HUGE Disney fan and I draw a lot of my inspiration from Walt Disney's quotes as well as the quotes from many of his movies. This one quote has always stuck out in my mind and it is beyond true.

At age 7, dreamt I would be a competitive figure skate: I did it! (competed for over 13 years) ✨Dreamt I would work at Walt Disney World: I did it! (2011 Disney College Program Alumni) ✨Dreamt I would move to a big city: I did it! (lived in Chicago from 2017 to 2020) ✨Dreamt I would meet Steve Wozniak and work for Apple: I did it! (twice! he's a really down to earth and amazing individual!)✨Dreamt I'd audition for America's Got Talent: I did it! ✨Dreamt I would be on stage at Captivating Pageants: I'm doing it!
✨Dreaming of being your next National Ms. Captivaiting and starting another amazing journey: I'm gonna manifest it and do it! How amazing would that be to have that be my new amazing journey!? ✨

I always believe that if you dream it, take the chance and do it. It's can be so much fun to do both and seeing which journey you end up on in the process. Why let your dreams be dreams when you can make them a reality?

12 Days to Captivate Day 5: Community Service

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year and also the time of the year where I love to devote a lot of my time and dedication.

My favorite place for community service/volunteer work is The Parade Company in downtown Detroit.

The Parade Company/Michigan Parade Foundation is a non profit organization that was founded in 1982 and their purpose is to coordinate, create and orchestrate America's Thanksgiving Parade presented by Gardner White. This parade is one of the most cherished events in the city of Detroit and is an event that is very near and dear to my heart. They even operate their own studio right in Detroit where all of the props, floats, costumes and magic are created for the Thanksgiving Parade each year.

Many retail, automotive, and industrial leaders as well as volunteers from the Detroit community give their time and dedication to ensuring that America's Thanksgiving Parade is a parade to remember each year.

There are over 1,000 volunteers that are apart of the Parade Company and I am one of them!

I have been a proud volunteer for over 15 years and the the exception of the pandemic, I have not missed a parade yet. Even when my life paths took me to other states, I still make my way home for the Parade.

I have worn many hats (no pun intended) with the Parade Company through the years and it has been an honor and so much fun with each role I have gotten to do. I love the parade so much that even my parents and fiancé have gotten involved!

I have been a balloon handler for various life size parade balloons, worked with chicken wire and paint in the studio while constructing the various floats and props for the Thanksgiving Parade and other parade company events, worked as a tour guide for studio tours given to the community on weekends, been a papiere mache head character at different community events (the North American International Auto Show and Detroit Tiger's ballgames), and I currently serve as a trainer for the float team where I am responsible for training new volunteers to safely guide and drive the floats on parade morning and various events.

The Parade Company is my home away from home, and the staff and volunteers are like a family to me. Being a part of this organization year after year is a no brainer for me and I am proud to continue to do it!!!!

12 Days to Captivate Day #4: Tell us about an interesting talent or something most don't know about you.

I grew up as a competitive figure skater but what most people don't know about me is that I love doing archery! I shoot with a compound bow at the moment and I find being on the archery range to be so relaxing and therapeutic even! Its also a great way to practice focus and control (also things that are important in not just being a pageant queen but also in my day to day life).

I'm looking forward to upgrading and getting a new bow in the future and continuing the archery craft.
Long story short, just call me Katniss!

Day 3 of the ! One of my most memorable moments (and one of my favorite stops on the ) was the opportunity to ride in the Worthington Memorial Day Parade and represent Captivating Pageants as their Ms. Ohio Captivating 2023.

I have ALWAYS wanted to do a parade ever since I started competing in pageants years ago but the timing/opportunity didn't present itself (life happens what do you do!). I was very fortunate to learn from one of my sister queens (and former National Ms. Captivating Cristina Feret and IUM Ms. Ohio) that there was an opportunity to ride on a parade float in the Worthington Memorial Day Parade and I couldn't have been more eager and excited to do this!

I got to share Memorial Day with not only Cristina but also with so many fellow queens from different systems (NAM, IUM, and even Captivating to name a few) and also had the honor of representing a wonderful organization called This Able Vet. They provide service dogs to soldiers with PTSD and I got to meet one of the veterans and his four legged partner Mako (the cutest lil pupper ever).

I am so happy to have had the opportunity to also meet National Mrs. Captivating Rachel Altiere and her adorable daughters and I also met Brittany M. Goodman (IUM Miss Atlanta and newly crowned National United Miss, congrats boo ❤)! I love keeping in touch with one another and seeing what adventures are in store for each of us.

Thank you also to Kisha Renee for organizing this opportunity for myself and so many fellow queens. It was such a fun time and I can't wait til next year (with a shiny new title *wink*).
Trust me, it was beyond hard to pick just one memorable moment! I'll have more sprinkled in between now and Captivating weekend, stay tuned!!!!

Day 2 of the ! One of my favorite days as it talks about who's the most captivating person in my life?

So this lady is my wonderful momma and one of my best friends . She's been my biggest cheerleader throughout my life whether in competitive figure skating, dance, theater, or at pageants. I got my mad skills rhinestoning from her and I can always count on her for amazing advice and that tough love that I sometimes don't want to hear but I need to. I wouldn't be the woman I am today if it weren't for her. I literally love her to pieces and while she won't be able to make it to Captivating weekend this year she's still super proud of me! Love you so much momma! As Tina Turner says "You're simply the best!"

It's the first day of the !!!!!

I cannot believe how much time has flown for the past six months for me as your Ms. Ohio Captivating 2023 on my journey to be your next National Ms. Captivating, , but who am I really?!

*I'm Meredith and I am literally the epitome of sparkles and magic! I LOVE all things Disney World and Disney itself (especially a certain purple dragon named Figment and a little orange bird). I am a former Disney College Program Cast Member from 2011 where I worked as a Fairy Godmother In Training at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Orlando, FL. Wilderness Lodge is my second home ❤.

*When I am not planning my next Disney vacation, I'm planning my wedding to my best friend and love of my life Nathan Caplan, being a dog mom-ager to my Australian Shepherd Primrose, or I'm making content for my TikTok and YouTube pages.

*I have been in the dental/orthodontic field for over 13 years and I currently work as an orthodontic assistant at Scioto Orthodontics. I absolutely LOVE my job and my co workers! I get the pleasure of working with some of the patient's that may need some extra TLC during their appointments. I love all of the patients I encounter and helping them pick their colors is one of my favorite parts! I also attend various events in the Hilliard community with my office to promote the practice and network with current and future patients. I help put braces on my fiancé!

*I am a HUGE fan of music festivals (I especially love the Electric Daisy Carnival and would LOVE to go to Coachella one day). I love being able to dress up in different outfits each day, have the fun crazy hair, dance like no one is watching, and trade friendship bracelets. I'm a Swiftie at heart and absolutely in my Lover Era (but also in my Captivating Era) ❤

*Cosplay is also totally my jam! My favorite cosplay I have done to date is Vanellope Von Schweetz from Wreck It Ralph. It is one of the second cosplays I have made (the first was off of the Resident Evil/ Umbrella Corporation series) and is so much fun! I can even do her voice!

*Star Wars......is literally amazing (I love being a nerd!) So amazing that we decided to get married next year on Star Wars Day! Ask me to quote any of the Star Wars original trilogy and I gotchu!
