One of my favorite things about making skincare is discovering ingredients most people have never heard of.

Gilded gave me an excuse to work with one I’ve wanted to use for a long time: Aguaje Oil from Peru.

Often called the “golden fruit of the Amazon,” aguaje is prized for its naturally high carotenoid content, beautiful color, and ability to support radiant-looking skin.

Once I paired it with rosehip, sea buckthorn, camellia, meadowfoam, and three separate botanical infusions, I knew I had something special.

At its foundation are three separate botanical infusions — calendula, rose, and marshmallow root — each slowly infused into jojoba oil over time to capture the character and benefits of the plant.

Then layered with some of my favorite oils for skin:

This doesn’t look like skincare.

But this is where nearly every product I make begins.

One of the questions I get asked most often is:

“Why do you use tallow in your products?”

The answer is actually pretty simple.

When I first began making skincare, I wasn’t looking for trendy ingredients. I was looking for ingredients that had stood the test of time.

For generations, people used animal fats, plant oils, herbs, and waxes to care for their skin long before modern skincare existed.

What drew me to tallow wasn’t a social media trend or a marketing claim.

It was how simple it was.

One traditional ingredient that had been used for generations, paired with carefully chosen herbs and oils to create something nourishing and effective. It contains many of the same types of fatty acids naturally found in healthy skin, which is one reason many people find it feels rich and nourishing without sitting heavily on the surface.

But tallow isn’t the whole story.

A truly beautiful product comes from thoughtful formulation.

That’s why I pair grass-fed tallow with carefully selected botanical infusions, oils like jojoba and meadowfoam, and herbs such as calendula, chamomile, plantain, rose, and many others.

For me, tallow isn’t about following a trend.
