Have you ever noticed how much energy an unresolved conflict can steal?

A difficult conversation sits in the back of your mind.

It was super insightful to sit down with leadership expert and retired Army Colonel Eric Lopez to talk about workplace wellness, leadership, and difficult conversations.

One story that stood out was his simple decision-making framework.

He shared how a previous boss always made decisions in 2 phases.

Phase 1: “Hey everybody. Tell me all your crazy ideas, challenge me, let’s get everything out there - even what feels like conflict .”

Phase 2: “I’m making the decision now. No more second-guessing. We’re moving forward together.”

Simple.
But it creates clarity, reduces tension, and helps people feel heard.

And it keeps you from avoiding difficult conversations. There’s a dedicated space and time for them.

Whether you’re a leader, business owner, or team member, unresolved issues often create more stress than the conversation itself.

Stop letting someone shame you in your struggle.

When you are exhausted and working to find the answer, there are gurus who tell you that you should just fix it

This morning I listened to a podcast that I loved listening to the speaker until he started shaming people who struggle with sleep

It reminded me of a few years ago when my workout partner would say she did not understand why people couldn’t find two hours every day to work out

She said “it’s easy. If it was really a priority for them, they would find it.”

Until she started working full-time and realized it was actually a challenge.

Not that it can’t be done – lots of people do work full-time and work out regularly.

But it was not as flippantly easy as she thought.

The bottom line is …

If you are working to make something work and someone is saying, “you should just do it”- because it’s been easy for them - then you might need to find a new voice to listen to.

Don’t give up
There are answers.

You will find what works for you.

I recovered from adrenal fatigue twice.

I was tempted to think rest alone would fix it.

But high achievers need more than relaxation.

They need to retrain their stress response.

Chronic stress puts your brain in survival mode.
Translate:
No creativity.
No clarity.
No strategic thinking.

Most people treat stress like a switch.
Push hard! Crash later!
(I’m raising my hand!)

But your nervous system learns through repetition.
Live in urgency long enough, and your brain begins to think that is normal.

The way to break that?
Movement!

The right movement creates controlled stress.
Then teaches your brain to recover from it.
Over time, you return to calm faster.

But not every workout builds calm.
Exhausted professionals often need gentler movement first.

Think - walking, strength training, yoga, tai chi ...

Then, when your nervous system feels safe:
- You think clearer.
- Decide faster.
- Lead better.
- Sleep deeper.
- And react less emotionally.

The goal isn’t less ambition.
The goal is build a brain and body that adapts to stress and can create calm again.
