My Dad, now in his 90th year, and my Mom who is 86 are both doing remarkably well despite a year of significant change and adjustment.

Last year, they made the difficult transition into an assisted living facility in New Zealand. Having spent most of their lives farming, working hard, and living independently, adapting to this new way of life has not been easy for them.

The greatest challenge for them both has been coming to terms with losing a level of independence and freedom that defined much of their lives. Mom now says, "I get treated like a baby," while Dad jokingly remarks, "I'm in my holding pen being told what to do."

They continue to adjust and face these changes with resilience and good humor.

I'll be making a quick trip back to New Zealand soon to spend some quality time with them. I'm especially looking forward to taking them to Taupō for a few days, sharing stories, enjoying each other's company, and creating more special memories. As the years pass, you come to realize that time with the people you love is life's most precious gift.

On Father’s Day I know how fortunate I am to still have my Dad and Mom with us. Dad’s strength, work ethic, wisdom, and quiet determination have shaped our family in countless ways.

Here's a heartfelt shout-out to all Dads, Granddads, and Father figures who have helped guide, support, and inspire us throughout our lives.
