As with so many small businesses, we struggle to find start up capital and establish lines of credit. For cooperatives, the challenge is even harder because most financial institutions do not know or are not willing to finance and employee owned and operated businesses. Lucky for us, Seed Commons is financially sophisticated enough and actually cares about community, literally putting "their money where their mouth is". "Sometimes we go high..." This week we've been working with Houston Habitat for Humanity at one of their ReStore locations. We're doing maintenance on their illuminated signage and updating all their parking lot lighting.

We were honored to be invited by the CEO for Houston Habitat for Humanity, Allison Hay, to join in celebrating President Jimmy Carter's extraordinary life and service.

Our project manager extraordinaire, Donna Subulade, attended the celebration at Houston Public Library Downtown – Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza and signed the memorial wall in his memory.

We're so proud of this group and their progress. We look forward to helping them transition into a full blown food cooperative with their own store front.

What is CurbFest? CurbFest for Political Prisoners connects organizers with community members to share ways to get involved in the movement and raise not only awareness, but direct material support for political prisoners.

Join us for a day filled with free food, political education, music and performances, art, acupuncture & wellness, letter writing to our political prisoners + more!
We will have Houston organizations tabling at the event, informing the community of the work they are doing so please, bring your comrades, friends, family, + loved ones!
