Interest should be illegal

She’s not getting robbed. She’s getting charged interest.

Her balance was $58,807.

She paid $300.

Her new balance is $58,745.

So the balance only dropped $62.

That means about $238 of that payment went to interest.

And no, that does not mean she’s paying some insane 20% rate like a credit card.

Based on her own numbers, her interest rate is around 4.9%.

Not 20%.
Not 15%.
Not even 10%.

That’s actually a decent rate.

The problem is the payment strategy.

When you make the minimum payment on any loan, you’re not aggressively paying down the debt.

You’re mostly paying interest while your balance barely moves.

That is not “the system robbing you.”

That is you choosing the slowest, most expensive way to get out.

And if you took out student loans just to go to college, with no plan for ROI, and now you’re shocked the loan is acting like a loan, then it’s time to stop posting and start making a plan.

You do not have a student loan crisis.

You have a personal finance math crisis.

Stop calling it robbery.

Start calling it what it is.

You’re renting your debt.
