**The Road to Ms. Black Florida USA**
2024 is proving to be a year of stretching and bravery. I have taken quite a few risks this year and I’m excited about the outcomes.

As a single mom of a beautiful, darling 3 year old, this “new normal” has come with its share of challenges. A new mind, new body and new spirit. And I’ll admit I lost myself for a while which I’ve found to be normal with postpartum . I thought I would be able to easily adjust and get back to things and engage in relationships that were pre Mila. Not so. I had to learn the new version of Michellita and embrace the complexities this new journey brings. In time and with great counsel, I’ve learned to channel my uncertainties and insecurities to making myself more vulnerable and courageous. Two traits I want my daughter to possess.

Those who know me know that empowering young girls is one of my passions and the world of pageantry was the one way I did that. Having confidence as a girl and being a dark skinned black girl especially, is not easy. As a young competitor then myself, I cherished the experience and the confidence I gained when competing. I had opportunities to make new friends and even helped others with their confidence. I did things I never thought I could do.

And now, 25 years later, I find myself being courageous. After receiving a DM from a friend who highly encouraged me to apply for a pageant, at age 45 ( the cut-off age), I applied and WAS ACCEPTED!!

So the road to the crown for Miss Black Florida USA begins and I am nervous, excited and in need of your support. Pageants are not cheap, but I’m crazy to believe that the seeds I have sown into the lives of hundreds of girls and women that I have trained and coached over the years for pageants will be returned. Can I count on your support?
