An MSU Legend, the "Controller" -Guest David Brower 06/23/2026

David ("Dave") Brower is a lifelong Lansing-area resident, MSU alumnus (BA Accounting, 1969; MBA Finance, 1970), CPA, and retired MSU executive. During his 32-year career at Michigan State University, he served in several leadership roles, including Assistant Vice President, CFO, and Controller, helping ensure the university’s financial integrity and leading the implementation of major financial and HR systems.

Known for his collaborative leadership and commitment to transparency, Dave received MSU’s Outstanding Supervisor of the Year Award in 2009. He also played a key role in developing the Kuali Open-Source Financial System, helping shape a platform still used today.

Beyond MSU, Dave has dedicated decades to community service through organizations such as the YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing, Capital Area United Way, Peoples Church, Burcham Hills, and the Wharton Center, where he received the Director’s Award for exemplary volunteer service in 2026.

A longtime leader of the MSU Retirees Association, Dave served as Treasurer for 10 years and President from 2024–2026, earning the organization’s Volunteer of the Year Award twice. He is also a generous supporter of MSU through scholarships, athletics, music, and performing arts programs.

In retirement, Dave enjoys traveling, reading, biking, attending campus events, and supporting jazz music through local festivals and MSU performances.
