I have been friends with for over 20 years. We sat next to each other in the beginning of high school and instantly clicked. We’ve kept in touch for the next 20 years, but lately we’ve bonded a little more since we both became mothers. I would often text her late in the evening for advice on the kids, and she is always full of great information. Being a mother is a never ending job, and Melissa is one of the strongest mommies I know. She has 2 beautiful children, Mariel and Gavin. Gavin is a very special baby. He has Pallister-Killian Syndrome. He is 1 of 500 children known in the world to have PKS.

Decemeber is PKS awareness month, and My Wellness Mask has collaborated with PKS awareness advocate Melissa to bring you a mask with a cause. Proceeds will go towards bringing visibility to promote research, provide education, and raise awareness, so that all families affected by PKS can receive the appropriate resources needed to support their unique needs.

PKS stands for Pallister-Killian Syndrome, named after Dr. Pallister who in 1963 conducted chromosome analyses and discovered a chromosome abnormality when a tetrasomy of the short arm of chromosome 12 (12p) occurs for unknown reasons.
