Hormone-Friendly Nutrition Isn’t About Restriction
It’s not about sacrificing everything you love—it’s about nourishing your body so your hormones stay balanced, your energy stays stable, and your cycle runs smoothly.
Eating regularly, getting plenty of protein and healthy fats, and keeping blood sugar steady are all key for hormone health.
For many women, that means more balanced meals, smarter snacks, and simple pantry swaps to support steady energy and reduce inflammation.
🌿 Here are some of my favorite hormone-friendly swaps:
🥑 Swap white bread → for whole-grain rye or a low-glycemic gluten-free loaf (better for blood sugar balance).
🥜 Swap chips → for nut-thins, almonds, or walnuts (crunchy, satisfying, and packed with healthy fats for hormone production).
🥗 Swap a simple salad → for a warm quinoa bowl with roasted chicken & veggies (keeps you full longer + supports steady energy).
🍳 Swap an English muffin breakfast sandwich → for egg & avocado toast on whole-grain rye with spirulina gomasio (loaded with protein, healthy fats, and minerals your hormones love).

It’s so easy to love coffee.
The smell, the morning ritual, and oh, that sweet buzz. Who doesn’t want a kick-start on a busy day?
But coffee has a dark side.
Nope, not talking about the roast. (Pun of the day?)
☕ Caffeine needs to be broken down by your liver.
Guess what else your liver handles? The hormones that control your cycle.
The exact same enzymes responsible for recycling and detoxifying your hormones also break down the caffeine in coffee.
And here’s the kicker—only 10% of people make an abundance of these enzymes (called CYP enzymes). That’s why some people can have a double espresso at 9 PM and sleep like a baby.
But for the other 90% of us, adding coffee to the mix just sidetracks your liver and creates a traffic jam.
🚦 More caffeine = less focus on clearing out excess estrogen and other hormones.
🚦 More backed-up hormones = more symptoms like PMS, bloating, heavy or irregular periods, mood swings, acne, and fatigue.
Sound familiar?
On top of that, coffee spikes cortisol and taxes the adrenals, giving you a temporary boost—at the cost of deeper reserves.
🩸 In Functional Medicine, the adrenals are a key part of your entire endocrine system. When they’re overworked, it leads to burnout, blood sugar crashes, and hormone chaos.
🔥 In Chinese Medicine, the adrenals are linked to Kidney energy, which fuels your metabolism, hormones, and overall vitality. Burn that up, and you burn up your reserves.
Sure, you get a quick hit of energy. But it’s like draining your gas tank for a single burst of speed—you pay for it later.

🌿 Depletes essential minerals (magnesium + B vitamins = crucial for balanced hormones)
😣 Disrupts gut health, leading to bloating and inflammation

Your body is an eco-system. 🎋🌳🍃🌳🎋
🌻 Healing is about restoring ecology more than fixing things.
I think of myself as more of a farmer of people’s wellbeing than a healer, or physician.
Healing takes time. just like restoring an impaired ecosystem takes time.
💩 Our digestion is the compost heap and drainage ditch.
🌏 The kidneys are the warmth that radiates from the earth.
🔆The heart is the sun.
🌊 The channels, muscles, facia are rivers and watershed systems
💦he organs are underground aquifers and springs that bubble up to the surface.
🤿 Acupoints are surface caverns or sink holes where we can access the depths.
How do we see what’s happening in this system and understand it?
👂 Thru talking, holding space, hearing the story, letting the imbalances emerge and show themselves..
🥰 Through palpation and finding the places that need support...
Feeling the pulse...
Looking at the tongue...
💫And now also thru Functional Lab Testing💫
It may not seem to fit the approach.
🦠But good farmers test their soil.

Welcome to the year of the Wood Dragon! 🐉🎋
In Chinese culture, the Dragon holds a significant place as an auspicious and extraordinary creature, unparalleled in talent and excellence.
It symbolizes power, nobility, honor, luck, and success.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is actually a much better time of year to make new goals, break thru old habits and create positive lifestyle change.
This is the time when you should be making new year resolutions, not in the middle of Winter on Jan 1, as the energetics of nature are more naturally aligned with activity and change.
Just before the advent of spring, the energy of nature starts to rise.
Plants start to bring energy up from their roots and up to their branches in the forms of buds in response to warming temps and lengthening days.
This also creates a rising energy in our bodies that can support clearing out the old and bringing in the new.
Spring is a time for new beginnings, emerging from hibernation and starting fresh.
So let this Lunar New year be an opportunity to start to shift your relationship with your struggle to get pregnant.
