Glass Phoenix, John Ryszka II
Glass Phoenix is the business name for artist John Ryszka II. He creates unique glass objects that inspire wonder and awe.
My artistic goal is to create unique glass pieces that challenge the viewer to become a mindful observer. To consciously focus their attention, to be cognizant of the world around them, and to ponder the scale of the universe and our place within it. Like the phoenix rising from the ashes of the old life to live anew, I take raw materials, subject them to fire and give them new form and a new lif

Yesterday I ran a snail class in the glass studio. I had so much fun with my talented student that I decided to make a few more after they had to go.
These Little cuties are now going to be available in the Rising Phoenix Gallery and at the special event happening this Saturday at the Indiana dunes visitor center / nature center on highways US 20 & 49.
There’s so much creative energy flowing through the gallery right now, and I couldn’t be more grateful to share it with you.
We currently have “White Static” by Jaber Dabagia on view at The Rising Phoenix Gallery — an immersive, multi-sensory experience that truly transforms the space.
Alongside the exhibit, we also have beautiful work by Alicia Martin featured in the gallery, adding even more depth and inspiration to your visit.
Meanwhile, the torch is lit in the studio!
I’m actively teaching lampworking classes, and it has been such a joy working with the incredible people in our local community. Yesterday’s class produced a couple of wonderful glass turtles — and seeing that spark of excitement when students complete their pieces never gets old.
In the gallery, you’ll also find a Southwest desert-inspired sculpture I recently completed, as well as a peaceful bog or swamp scene featuring cattails and a little frog tucked inside. These nature-inspired pieces have been especially meaningful for me to create.
I’m truly enthusiastic and humbled to teach such amazing individuals and to be surrounded by so much creativity right here in Michigan City.
Come experience the exhibit, explore the artwork, and maybe even join us for a class. I’d love to see you!

Glass on Display at PopiCon
This video offers a closer look at my glass work currently on display at PopiCon—an ever-shifting collection of color, light, and detail brought together for a weekend of creativity and play.
You’ll see a variety of handcrafted glass pendants and sculptural pieces, each shaped in the flame with intention and curiosity, alongside a special collection of dichroic Inner Peace Puzzle Marbles and Universe Marbles. These pieces are designed to invite interaction—turn them in your hands, explore the layers, and let the light reveal something new from every angle.
Whether you’re drawn to wearable art, small contemplative objects, or bold sculptural forms, this collection reflects my ongoing love for glass as both a visual and tactile experience. If you’re at PopiCon, be sure to stop by, see them in person, and spend a little time with the work.
Thank you for watching and for supporting handmade glass and the creative community.
