As I wander through the vast valley of videos Christopher left behind—the music, the stories, the conversations, the quiet moments—I sometimes stumble upon pieces that feel less like content and more like pages gently torn from a journal.

“My mother taught me many things. How to be a gentleman. How to treat a lady. How to be a man.

She believed children should be read to and are the parents first priority. She believed a mother should look like the mother and not the sister. She believed that you don't need money to keep a clean house, or look well groomed. She believed it was her responsibility to teach her children to understand social graces. And how to clean a bathroom.

She knew how to iron and mend. She knew how to cook and clean. And she knew how to shoot a gun, track a deer, and clean a fish.

She knew how to make a house into a home and feed her family on a dime. She worked full time because she had to, not because she wanted to. She managed the finances, got her husband into treatment three times, got us to church, made Sunday dinner for the entire family, set the table and did the dishes.

Heartbroken, she buried her husband of 42 years but was back to work the next week.

She drives for three hours, three times a week to work and back. She's made it through two new knees, two new hips, and one new shoulder (that needs to be redone). She lives in pain, but doesn't complain.

All this while looking flawless.

Now don't be dying on me any time soon, Mother. We've got stuff to do.”
