The backlash Olivia has had from her doing well at her young age is wild. Yall just assume and run with it.

Before Olivia bought her 2026 Hyundai Sonata, she was driving my paid off 2016 Nissan Rogue.

From the time she was 16 until she was 18, we shared that 2016 Nissan Rogue. It wasn’t a situation where she turned 16 and got handed a brand new car. We shared one vehicle and made it work.

Last July, I upgraded to a 2023 Nissan Rogue Platinum and gave her my old Rogue instead of selling it.

When she decided she wanted to buy her own car, I told her that whatever she saved for her down payment, I would match. She worked, she saved, and I matched her down payment just like I promised.

For the last year, we’ve also been working on her credit. I added her as an authorized user so she could build credit and learn how it works. I taught her that if she wanted to finance a vehicle, she needed excellent credit.

I also made one thing very clear. I would help her get into the car, but I would not be making her monthly car payment or paying her insurance. Those bills are hers.

Olivia is not a nepo baby. She’s worked as a gymnastics coach for over a year, earned her own money, saved for her down payment, and put in the work to build excellent credit before ever walking into a dealership. We aren’t rich. We just had a plan, stuck to it, and prioritized teaching financial responsibility.

Some people see an 18 year old driving a 2026 Hyundai Sonata and assume everything was handed to her. What they didn’t see were the two years we shared a 2016 Nissan Rogue, the year we spent building her credit, the hours she worked, the money she saved, and the financial lessons she learned before she ever signed those papers.

She turns 19 this month, and I couldn’t be prouder of the young woman she’s becoming. Turning 18 didn’t mean I stopped being her mom. It meant helping her become an independent adult. I’ll never apologize for supporting my daughter while also teaching her responsibility, accountability, and how to build a strong financial future. That’s exactly what a parent should do.
