The original job recruiter founder David H. McConnell started his humble beginning as a door to door salesman of books with a unique sales pitch - a free rose scented tin of perfume accompanied each book with purchase. The popularity of the perfume signified McConnell’s transition from the sale of books to the sale of perfumes - a market that grew swiftly for McConnell and his partner Alexander D. Henderson with his feminine clientele and the birth of The California Perfume Company. In 1932, a trademark application was filed in New York for perfumes, toilet waters, compact powders and rouge under the new title Avon. During the era - Avon successfully marketed their brand via commercial advertising and the famous 1954 television commercial tagline - “Ding! D**g! Avon calling”

Posted • The 1950’s - model of the moment - Anne St. Marie - a Los Angeles native and the face of beauty advertising campaigns for Elizabeth Arden, Revlon, Avon and Coty - this muse sat for many sessions with renowned photographers such as Irving Penn,Henry Clarke,Jerry Schatzberg, William Bell, and Erwin Blumenfeld, but no one lensman captured the truest essence of this mid century beauty more than her life long love,her husband - Tom Palumbo.Tom Palumbo spent many years photographing for Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar alongside Anne St. Marie appearing on the cover of many of the coveted issues . 📷:
