After more than 25 years in dentistry, I’ve learned that most situations aren’t as simple as social media makes them seem.

Sometimes the patient isn’t saying “no.”

Sometimes they’re saying:

“Not today.”

There is a difference.

Before anybody starts judging…

This woman wasn’t missing all her teeth.

She wasn’t trying to replace a whole mouth.

She was trying to replace ONE tooth.

One tooth.

And honestly, some people know exactly what they need.

They just don’t have the resources to do it today.

Some people hear a $3,000 treatment plan and start trying to figure out how to make it happen.

Some people are thinking:

“Can I do payments?”
“Can I phase the treatment?”
“Can I start with the most important part first?”

Because not everybody can write a check on the spot.

“Insert fake tooth”

But now let’s be fair…

Because every patient isn’t struggling.

Some patients genuinely can’t afford treatment.

And some patients got a $3,000 handbag, a $1,500 phone, two vacations planned, and fifty-seven pictures from Jamaica…

But only smile from the left side.😂

At some point, we also have to talk about priorities.

Because dentistry isn’t always about affordability.

Sometimes it’s about decision-making.

And that’s okay too.Just be honest about it.

Don’t tell me you can’t afford the crown while you’re posting beach pictures saying “living my best life.”

Because your tooth is over there living its worst life.

“Oh Lord.”

But seriously…
Before we assume neglect, laziness, or that people don’t care, remember that everybody has a story.

Some people need financing.
Some people need a plan.
Some people need flexibility.
And some people need to stop pretending that tooth isn’t there.

When we know better, we do better.
