This client noticed itching and some tingling, burning sensations in the same area of her crown towards the end of the Summer 2020. Her Hair Stylist didn't know what to suggest when she noticed the spot and some hair breakage during a styling service. Client mentioned what she was experiencing to a close friend who suggested she see a Dermatologist. Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA) was confirmed and decided she didn’t want what the Dermatologist suggested which was injections of steroids. Another friend/Hair Stylist referred her to me. Early detection is the best protection…along with being committed, compliant and total consistency of an holistic treatment plan. Don’t ignore the signs…don’t ignore your health! HRCBK

Did you know there’s not 1, not 2, not 3, not even 4...but 5 cycles of hair growth all happening at the same time?!

Each hair cycle has it’s own pace which depends on one’s health, lifestyle, nutritional intake, prescribed medication and daily stressors.

🕐Anagen cycle: This is the ‘growth’ cycle which lasts 2-6 years and the cycle in which majority of the hair is pushing out hairs as they continue to grow, be cut as they prepare for the next cycle of hairs. Also, this cycle will differ for some people.

🕑Catagen cycle: Considered to be one of the shortest cycles lasting 10 or more days as the hair ‘transitions’ to the next cycle.

🕒Telogen cycle: Time to take a break for approximately 3 months. Approximately 15% of the hair is in the ‘resting’ cycle...as hairs are preparing simultaneously for the next cycle.

🕓Exogen cycle: As hair transitioning occurs into this next cycle one can expect hair ‘shedding’ to happen daily...an approximation of 100 hairs per day. You will notice this occurrence when combing and/or brushing your hair. This is considered normal with a very short time duration.

🕔Kenogen cycle: This is the hair cycle where the follicle becomes ‘empty’ and/or dormant. During this time the follicle will hopefully be receiving much needed nutrients and basically awaiting a new hair. This cycle can last from weeks to months before it sprouts a new hair. Eat healthy, drink plenty of water at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces, obtain sufficient rest and stress less...allow new hairs to grow!
