😳 Imagine spending more than $72,500 on a custom covered deck and outdoor living area, only to find yourself questioning whether the structural work underneath was done correctly.
The finished product may look incredible, but appearances can be deceiving. The real quality of a structure lies in the details most people never see—load paths, footing design, beam support, hardware selection, and framing connections.
Beautiful craftsmanship on the surface means very little if the hidden structural components aren't built properly. The most important parts of any project are often the ones that disappear behind finishes.
Always inspect the work before it's covered up. That's where the true quality of the build is revealed.

Roofer says it’s fine, home inspector says it’s wrong… so now I’m trying to figure out who’s right.
This is the flashing where the roof meets the brick wall, and the inspector pointed out the circled area, saying the flashing should be sitting over the shingles on the lower side so water can run off properly.
The roofer who installed it says it’s done correctly and up to code.
I’m not a roofing expert, but this is one of those things I’d rather ask about now than find out during the next heavy rain that water has been getting behind something.
For anyone who does roofing, inspections, or exterior work — does this look right to you, or would you have it corrected?

Please tell me this doesn’t mean the whole patio has to be redone.
This was a brand-new concrete pour yesterday, and after today’s rain we’re already seeing water pooling in a couple spots — including areas that look like they may be sloping back toward the house.
That’s what has me worried.
This upper slab is supposed to be part of a two-tier wraparound patio and eventually hold a hot tub, so we spent a lot of time making sure the base was solid. Gravel was compacted, everything was checked, and we hired it out because we wanted the finish done right.
Now seeing standing water this close to the patio door and under the window has me nervous, especially with Wisconsin winters. I don’t want water freezing near the house or causing problems later.
I’m hoping there’s a fix that doesn’t involve tearing it out, but I’d really like to hear from people who know concrete.
Is some pooling normal on a fresh slab after rain, or is this something that needs to be addressed right away?

This isn't just a front porch—it's a custom concrete showpiece that could cost $15,900 to create.
Sharp geometric lines, exposed aggregate accents, and flawless finishing combine to deliver a modern entrance that instantly elevates the entire home. Details like these separate ordinary concrete from premium craftsmanship.

I’m trying not to jump to conclusions, but this install has me a little concerned. 😕
We paid for a professional job, and seeing this post set into fresh concrete right next to the HVAC unit, with the surrounding area still torn up, makes me wonder if this was done the right way.
Maybe it’s normal and there’s still more finishing work coming, but for the price, I expected something that looked a little cleaner and more reassuring.
The marks on the wood and the rough area around the footing definitely caught my attention. I’d rather ask questions now than find out later that something should have been corrected from the start.
For anyone familiar with posts, footings, or outdoor installs — does this look okay, or would you be calling the contractor back out to explain it?

We just had our driveway redone, and I’m honestly not sure how to feel about the finished edges. 😕
From a distance, the driveway looks nice, but up close the sides seem pretty rough and uneven, with loose asphalt already spilling into the grass and gravel. For what we paid, I expected the edges to look a little cleaner and more finished.
The caution tape is still up, so maybe there’s some settling or final cleanup that needs to happen. But when you spend that much on a “premium” driveway, it’s hard not to worry when the first thing you notice is the messy edge work.
I’m trying not to overreact, but I also don’t want to ignore something that should be addressed now before it becomes a bigger issue.
For anyone who’s had asphalt work done, is this normal at first — or would you be calling the contractor back out?

I paid $7,250 for this walkway and I swear the concrete crew was getting paid by the curve.
The surface looks smooth, the edges are clean, and everything appears professionally finished. But the layout? That's another conversation.
The joints curve. The borders curve. The panels curve. At this point, the only straight thing in the entire project is my confusion.
It feels less like a sidewalk and more like the entrance path to a water park called "Control Joint Lagoon."
Maybe it's artistic. Maybe it's custom. Maybe I'm just too old-fashioned for a walkway that looks like it's doing Pilates.
