It’s a new dawn..it’s a new day..and I’m feeling good.

Saddened. Heartbroken. Angry.
Angry that black people are fighting the same fight we have been fighting for over 60 years, for centuries even. The troubling images on our TV’s and on all of our feeds are the same ones from the 60s that raged against police brutality, racism, and overall injustice. Black people in this country have never been given a fair chance. We have always been viewed as other and less than and the current riots are a result of that.
I do not agree that violence to our communities is the answer but I can not criticize people’s response to pain about a system that is not set up for them.
In my own life, I have always had to consider choices that are centered around my blackness.
Applying for a new job in a corporate space...Should I put my racially ambiguous first name (Harold) on my resume, or use the middle name I’ve always gone by (an Arabic, Muslim one) which automatically is an indicator that I’m not white?
I’ve often been in positions where I’ve been the only person of color dining in a restaurant, or in a staff meeting, or at an invited event. That has never been lost on me. I am always aware of it, I acknowledge it and am grateful that I’ve been afforded it.
Racism is real and it has not gone anywhere. In the recent words of Will Smith it “isn’t getting worst it’s being filmed.”
The public lynchings that make up this country’s horrendous past have moved from a vast country field to the side of a police car. And they are now being televised.
People are angry. WE are angry.. at the systemic racism that continues to exist and kill innocent black people. WE are angry that nothing is being done to change it. WE are angry that we are being called thugs by the president.
Now is the time for everyone who has a voice of privilege to use it. Recognize that just because the current administration might be set up for you, is it set up for the non-white person you call family or friend?
Educate. Research. Donate. Smile. Be Kind. Hug. Say, I See You. Empathize. The rioting and looting will eventually stop.
The smoke from burning buildings and patrol cars will clear and then the real work will begin.

Trying on new looks from Express and building out my summer post quarantine wardrobe.
I’ve said it before but it bears repeating that Express makes some pretty amazing jeans. The hyper stretch fabric makes them very versatile and they are crazy comfortable.
They’re a great option for those days that you want to ditch the elastic waist sweats and feel like you have somewhere to go 😂
Loving it with this classic denim shirt too...a summer sweet look for the zoom room to the bedroom!

Another week down. I hope everyone is still finding a reason to smile during this tough time.
Some of my reasons are-
📞: Connecting with close friends and family more often than I usually have time to.
🎸: Having more time to play and practice guitar.
🕺🏽: Insta-DJ live dance parties.
📲: Escaping through the digital pages of my favorite interior design and fashion mags.
😁 What are some of the ways you’re finding your , during this pause?
