I've been beyond busy this year, but got a pleasant surprise while pulling some things out of the . I ate the smaller one this morning. I think it was the sweetest I've ever eaten.

My first on my Sarracenia 'Judith Hindle' opened today! This is my second but my first JH. I snagged the last one at the other day (though they do have several Scarlett Belles left). This one is still small, but the pitchers can eventually reach up to 36" tall!
Sarracenia are also known as American Pitcher Plants and, contrary to popular belief, they are temperate plants that can remain outdoors all year in most climates of the U.S. I keep mine in a tray of water in full sun. Once winter comes, the plant will go dormant and I'll store it in the until spring. Like most , it needs distilled or rain water to stay happy and healthy.

Check out those inside this ! When prey wiggles against these hairs, it causes the trap to shut, with the insect inside.
Today I started taking my Venus Fly Traps outside to acclimate them to full sun. They've been living in the while the weather was cold, but will be moving out to live up to their full potential.

The Carnivore Armoire is filling up! All of the plants have adapted to the new space and are churning out leaves/pitchers like crazy!
The pitchers on Nepenthes (tropical pitcher plants) are actually modified leaf structures, NOT flowers. The form at the ends of the leaves and eventually elongate and grow into pitchers. In the lower right you can see a Nepenthes ampullaria exhibiting "carpeting" behavior as pitchers form from growth.

Despite the complete reconfiguration of the garden, many of the managed to survive in whatever containers I stuffed them in.

Harvested the rest of the that will be used for . On the top is Henbit (Lamium amplexicaule) and below is Speedwell (Veronica sp). Gorgeous!
Infusing oils with Chickweed (Stellaria media) and Purple Dead Nettle (Lamium purpureum) for skin salves. So green!
