My name is Hanif Jivraj and I am a Native New Yorker. As a local, I've grown to love the city of my inspiration, and I try to photograph unique moments as well as its own architectural beauty when possible. These images in my gallery represent some of how I see NYC, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed photographing them.

" We saw a national unity bend. We learned that unity is the one thing that must never break. Unity is what makes us who we are, America at its best.” ." - Joe Biden, 2021.

Have a holly, jolly Christmas;
It's the best time of the year
I don't know if there'll be snow
but have a cup of cheer

Have a holly, jolly Christmas;
And when you walk down the street
Say Hello to friends you know
and everyone you meet — but wear a mask, get vacc’d and boosted! Stay safe!

20 Years...

This is probably one of the first pictures I took, shortly after I found an interest in photography. For me, the Towers always represented NYC, and were always there during my youth. Coming out of subways, I used them to find direction, and used to meet friends there as a meeting spot. When I was growing up, I took them for granted. On that day, as I watched them fall I said goodbye to two childhood "friends." Today we mourn their loss, the loss of the lives we experienced that day and our innocence.

From Obama's Tweet today - "For Michelle and me, the enduring image of that day is not simply falling towers or smoldering wreckage. It’s the firefighters running up the stairs as others were running down. The passengers deciding to storm a cockpit, knowing it could be their final act. The volunteers showing up at recruiters’ offices across the country in the days that followed, willing to put their lives on the line.

Over the last 20 years, we’ve seen the same courage and selflessness on display again and again. We saw it a decade ago when, after years of persistence, our military brought justice to Osama bin Laden. And we’re seeing it today — in the doctors and nurses, bone tired, doing what they can to save lives; the servicemembers, some of whom weren’t even born 20 years ago, putting themselves at risk to save Americans and help refugees find a better life; the first responders battling roaring fires and rising waters to bring families to safety. They represent what is best in America, and what can and should bring us together.

9/11 reminded us how so many Americans give of themselves in extraordinary ways — not just in moments of great crisis, but every single day. Let’s never forget that, and let’s never take them for granted. " - Barack Obama

Nineteen Years

•"And that’s why it is so important today that we reaffirm our character as a nation—a people drawn from every corner of the world, every color, every religion, every background—bound by a creed as old as our founding, e pluribus unum. Out of many, we are one. For we know that our diversity—our patchwork heritage—is not a weakness; it is still, and always will be, one of our greatest strengths. This is the America that was attacked that September morning. This is the America that we must remain true to." - Barack Obama, 2016.
