Scene 02: Cholon
Cholon (Chợ Lớn) began as a trading town west of the Sài Gòn River, built by Hoa (ethnic Chinese) merchants along the canals. Long a separate municipality, it was merged with Sài Gòn in 1931 as “Sài Gòn–Chợ Lớn”; in 1956 the name was shortened to Sài Gòn. Today, Chợ Lớn is centered in District 5 with extensions into Districts 6 and 11, and historical reach into parts of District 10.

The LangBian highlands above Đà Lạt were home to the K’Ho and Mạ long before a hill town was planned. After Dr. Alexandre Yersin surveyed the site in 1893, Đà Lạt grew as a mountain refuge. With cool air, pine hills, and basalt-rich red soil, the plateau became a cultivator’s haven for tea, coffee, vegetables, and silk.
Today, Đà Lạt remains a go-to destination for travelers and locals alike, a place for wanderers and seekers, people drawn to quiet air, long views, and the pull of the unknown.
