Consistent maintenance helps support the long-term health of your locs. ✨

Clean roots.
Healthy foundation.
Beautiful locs.

There’s something special about seeing a fresh retie bring everything back into focus. 🤎

Swipe for the before and after.

Confession time… 😅

I stretched this retie out to about 8–10 weeks and decided it was finally time to sit down and take care of my own hair.

Sometimes we get busy.
Sometimes life gets lifing.
And sometimes even the loctician needs a reminder to get back on schedule. 🤎

The best part? Seeing healthy roots, a clean foundation, and a little bonus length check at the end 👀✨

Maintenance may evolve as your locs mature, but healthy locs will always benefit from consistent care.

🤎 Let’s talk wash day 👀

Starter locs still need care.

A good wash routine can help reduce buildup, support scalp health, and help your locs thrive while they’re forming.

I put together a few wash day basics to help make the journey a little easier.

Healthy locs start with healthy habits:

✔️ Wash your hair
✔️ Protect your locs on wash day
✔️ Handle them gently while they’re forming
✔️ Be patient with the process

If you’re thinking about starting your loc journey, save this post for later and feel free to DM me with questions.

Your journey matters to me. 🤎

Maintenance matters 🤎

Skipping retwists for too long can lead to:
• thinning
• matting
• breakage
• weakened roots

This traditional loc restoration included retwisting, hydration, cleanup, adding a few locs in the back for fullness, and a lightweight retwist using water, oil, and setting lotion for a softer, healthier finish ✨

Healthy locs deserve consistency too 🤎

If I could go back and talk to myself at the beginning of my loc journey… I’d say relax 🤎

Your locs are not supposed to look “perfect” overnight. They grow, shift, frizz, bud, unravel, and mature over time — just like we do.

Trust your journey. Your locs are becoming. ✨

Loc journeys can change directions 🤎

11 years into my loc journey, I realized I wanted something different from my hair… so I combined my locs and started a new chapter ✨

And honestly?
There were moments I questioned myself 😂

Locs are VERSATILE and they can evolve with you ✨

You’re allowed to pivot.
You’re allowed to change direction.

That’s part of the journey 🤎

Healthy locs need consistent care 🤎

Locs aren’t just a hairstyle — they’re a journey. And like anything healthy, they need maintenance and patience along the way ✨

A good retie helps maintain clean parts, supports healthy growth, and keeps your locs thriving as they continue to mature.

Locs may be a lower maintenance natural hair option, but regular upkeep still matters 🌱

Some people only see the “finished” locs… but the early stages taught me the most 🤎

The shrinkage was REAL 😂
Some days felt awkward.
Some days I questioned the process.

But little by little, my confidence grew right alongside my locs ✨

Your journey is not going to look like anyone else’s — and that’s okay.

Every stage has purpose. Every stage has beauty.

If you’re thinking about starting your own loc journey, let’s talk it through 👀

“Frizz” doesn’t mean your locs are failing 👀🤎

One of the biggest surprises for people starting locs is realizing that neatness and maturity are NOT the same thing.

Loose hairs, swelling, budding, shrinkage… all of that is part of the process. Your hair is learning a new pattern, and healthy locs take time to form.

Trust me — some of the strongest, healthiest locs start with a little frizz ✨

Trust the process. Your journey is unfolding exactly the way it should.
