The LMT Refinery
We teach massage therapists to think clinically, move intelligently, and grow intentionally.
Our mission is to create collaborative, intelligent education where therapists feel safe, supported, and empowered.
There’s a point in every therapist’s career where adding another technique isn’t what creates the biggest leap forward.
The biggest leap comes from mastering the techniques you already know…making them more adaptable, more intentional, and more effective.
That’s exactly why we created the October Focus Series.
They’re designed for therapists who are ready to think outside the traditional barefoot massage box and get more out of the technique they already know.
This is where critical thinking meets movement, and nervous system awareness enters the equation. That’s when your barefoot work evolves and becomes something therapeutically next level.
Take one of our Focus Series classes or join us for all three this Fall.

I recently read a thread where massage therapists shared why they walked away from barefoot massage. Chronic pain. Surgeries. Bodies that could no longer support the work they loved.
It reinforced something I’ve believed for a long time:
Education should evolve.
It NEEDS to evolve.
That’s why our advanced curriculum isn’t built around collecting more techniques or climbing through levels or a “certification.”
It’s built around developing critical thinking.
Once you’ve mastered the foundation, the next step isn’t memorizing another sequence. It’s learning to ask better questions.
• Is this the most efficient way to treat this client?
• Can I achieve the same outcome with less effort?
• How can I adapt this technique to better protect my own body?
Because therapist longevity isn’t an accident. It’s the result of thousands of thoughtful decisions made over the course of a career.
My hope is that therapists don’t just make it to year 20 or beyond, I hope they still love what they do when they get there.
I saw a reel and it stopped me in my tracks.
As someone who’s now almost three years removed from burnout
(and still feels like I’m recovering from it) it struck me.
What really stayed with me, though, wasn’t just the reel. It was the comments. Therapist after therapist sharing stories of exhaustion, chronic pain, compassion fatigue, autoimmune diagnoses, feeling touched out, and wondering if they could keep doing the work they once loved. It was eye-opening. It was heartbreaking.
Those conversations matter.
Burnout isn’t a personal failure, and it isn’t an inevitable part of being a massage therapist either. I believe it’s something we have to talk about honestly if we want to build longer, healthier careers.
That’s a big part of why I teach the way I do. Not just techniques, but sustainability. Better body mechanics. Better boundaries. Better business decisions. A career that can evolve as you do.
If you’re in the middle of burnout, or you’ve come out the other side, I’d love to hear your perspective.
What was the biggest change that helped you reclaim your career…or what do you wish you’d changed sooner?

Every massage therapist’s business is different.
That’s why I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all advice.
Whether we’re talking about websites, marketing, pricing, hiring, Google, or building a long-term plan, my goal is always the same:
Help you leave with clarity and a strategy you can actually put into ACTION.
Reviews like this mean a lot because they remind me that sometimes one conversation can completely change someone’s direction.
Thank you for trusting me with your business. It truly means a lot.
Just in case you needed permission:
You don’t have to earn every client with another massage video.
The therapists who stand out aren’t always the ones with the fanciest techniques or the prettiest treatment videos.
They’re the ones who consistently show up, share who they are, what they do, and let people get to know the human behind the business.
People don’t just buy massage.
They buy confidence.
They buy connection.
They buy trust.
Build that, and the bookings tend to follow.

There are a lot of ways to measure a class.
For me, it isn’t just whether someone learns a new technique.
It’s whether they leave more confident. Maybe just reinspired.
Whether they feel seen.
Whether they trust themselves a little more than they did when they walked in.
Reading feedback like this reminds me why I keep my classes small and why I’ll always choose connection over ego.
To every therapist who’s trusted me with a piece of their journey, thank you 🙏🏼
There are definitely easier ways to scale a CE business, but this is one decision I don’t see myself changing.
I care a lot more about how therapists leave my classroom than how many people I can fit into it.
When someone invests their time and money to train with us, I want them to feel seen, supported, challenged, and confident by the time they head home.
For me, that’s worth keeping classes small.

When I first became a massage therapist, I thought success would come from learning more techniques.
Twenty years later, I know it's just as much about communication, consistency, boundaries, and the way you think about your career.
Some of the biggest shifts in my practice didn't happen after a new certification. They happened when I changed my perspective.
That's what these five lessons represent.
I'm sure I'll keep adding to this list as the years go on, but these are the ones that continue to shape how I practice, teach, and run my business today.
Which one resonated with you most? Or what lesson would you add?
