Stress, anxiety, and heightened awareness can be experienced during labor and childbirth. A randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial found that inhaling sweet orange essential oil can reduce anxiety related to labor. Two drops of 2% sweet orange essential oil was added to a clean napkin that was attached to the participants’ clothes at a distance of 20 cm from their chins. The control group inhaled two drops of distilled water. The researchers found that those who inhaled orange essential oil had less anxiety and stress when compared to the control group.
