Hydrotherapy is used to treat many illnesses and conditions including:

acne
arthritis
colds
depression
headaches
stomach problems
joint, muscle, and nerve problems
sleep disorders
stress
It is also commonly used for relaxation and to maintain a person’s state of health. Hydrotherapy is also excellent for reducing or relieving sudden or long-lasting pain.

HOW DOES HYDROTHERAPY WORK ??? The healing properties of hydrotherapy are based on its mechanical and/or thermal effects. It makes use of the body’s reaction to hot and cold stimuli, to the protracted application of heat, to the pressure exerted by the water, and to the sensation of the water itself. Nerves carry what is felt by the skin deeper into the body, where it is then vital in stimulating the immune system, influencing the production of stress hormones, improving circulation and digestion, encouraging the flow of blood, and lessening the body’s sensitivity to pain.

Generally speaking, heat is used to quiet and soothe the body, and to slow down the activity of internal organs. Cold is used to stimulate and invigorate, increasing internal activity within the body. If you are experiencing tense muscles or anxiety, heat is recommended in the shower or bath. For feeling tired and stressed out, it is recommended to take a warm shower or bath followed by a short cold shower to help stimulate the body and mind.

When submerged in a body of water such as a bath or a pool, there is a kind of weightlessness, as the water relieves your body of much of the effects of gravity. Water also has a hydrostatic effect and has a massage-like feeling as the water gently kneads your body. Water, when it is moving, stimulates the touch receptors on the skin, increasing blood circulation and releasing tight muscles.

Shoulder Articulations 11/16/2011

QUESTION-I keep getting this pinching feeling behind my shoulder blades. It is on my left shoulder, when I look 100% left and move my arm up and down I get a pinch in my back.

Any Ideas?

If you want a real diagnosis, see an orthopedic doc.

If you want a guess by myself, we can do that..

1. Google a pic and mark where it hurts

2. Which shoulder articulations hurt?
http://www.exrx.net/Articulations/Shoulder.html

3. Any previous injury history?

4. How's your posture?

5. What is your current workout routine for that bodypart?

6. Any other information I should be aware of or that comes to mind that may help?

7. Check the tissue quality of the surround muscles. Which ones are tight? Which ones are tender? Is there any swelling?

Initial impressions -- If you have poor posture then it may be symptomatic of some tight muscles and pinching the nerves in the area.

If it's an acute injury them maybe it's something else... too little info to tell right now

For now if it's soft tissue you can: REST, take anti-inflammatory like fish oil (3-5g EPA+DHA), self massage 3-5x per day of 10-15 minutes each trying to loosen up tender/tight/painful spots, possibly some light stretching and keeping it moving/loose. Compression and possibly ice if there's swelling.
