My Story
Prior to joining R+F as an Independent Consultant, I worked in Corporate Real Estate. I enjoyed the work, but I felt like I was living to work, rather than working so I could have a fulfilling life and be present for my three sons. Needless to say, I became very discouraged and also very unhappy. Well, as fate would have it, I found myself unemployed at the age of 43. After the initial shock wore off, I decided to take the summer off and think about where I was in my life and where I wanted to go. For so long, I had felt like a Hamster in a wheel, but now it was time to get off because my world had completely changed. I was also going to start searching for jobs…and not just any job. This was going to be my chance to find that job that would allow me the work-life balance I desired.
While I was enjoying my first summer off in many years, I was contacted by a High School Classmate who let me know that she was selling Rodan + Fields skincare and wanted to know if I would be interested (she was the third classmate to do so). I told her probably not because I didn’t wear make-up. She corrected me by telling me she was not selling make-up; rather, skincare products that would give me the best skin I have ever had. I was skeptical because I have gone through so many products only to break out or have my skin so dried out and badly chaffed. She caught me on a good night though, so I ordered. I started using SOOTHE and within days I noticed a huge improvement in my skin and I have been very happy with the products, ever since. It didn’t end there, though. I was still unemployed.
It had been about 2 months since I started using the products and I had been diligently job searching when it happened: I entertained the thought of becoming a consultant. I promptly talked myself out of it because I didn’t think I could do sales and it didn’t address the immediate need for income. The following month I made the decision to switch to Residential Real Estate. While, that would not address the immediate need for income, it gave me something to work toward immediately and the possibility of decent income in the future and on my own terms. Shortly thereafter, my classmate texted me and asked me if I needed to replenish my SOOTHE regimen and if I wanted in on “the skinny”...i.e. the R+F business. I gave it some thought; we had a few conversations and texts; I went back and forth again and then I told her I wanted to do it. At this point, I had nothing to lose, even if it didn’t work out for me.
So, that is my story. I would like to apologize to the two classmates that reached out to me before: I could have had better skin a lot sooner. I would like to thank the 3rd classmate for reaching out to me: I have better skin now and I am excited for this journey and the possibilities that it will bring.
