Lilacs from my dear friend Annie, turned to lilac syrup over strawberries, on top of Logan’s buttermilk pancakes, along with NYT’s Rhubarb Butterscotch sauce, and yet another, with that fresh honey butter.

Meal Prep Pro Tip: make your cookie dough healthy enough to substitute for a meal, then freeze balls of cookie dough and bake off as many as you would like to eat for each meal. *The children are with their dad, don’t worry that I have given up on feeding them. Not yet.

I love cake. And lemon desserts. And running prep alongside Logan or Landon, as they bake. It’s nice in the slow lane! Anyhow, in the interest of being mindful of my sugar based calorie consumption, I considered Martha Stewart’s system of keeping baking ingredients around but not bringing home ready-to-eat goodies. It doesn’t work for me re: the sugar calories (see my cake habit), but it does result in much tastier and nutritious good feelings. 🍋

After we exhaust potatoes as comfort food, let’s move onto cheesy grits and slow cooked greens. My advice: add smoked chili oil, so good.

Go ahead and spend hours making a cake you will regret being home alone with. It’s worth it. Flourless Chocolate Cake with Halvah Honey Sauce. Go ahead and also make Brown Sugar Halvah (you will have a lifetime supply after using the 2 T needed for the recipe 😉). Lucky me to have in the kitchen, keeping it real.
