šæ3 reasons to clean houseplant leaves (and skip the toxic chemicals when you do)
Beside the self care bonus of slowing down to enjoy the simple ritual of leaf cleaning and the reward of a glowing leaf, spraying your plants is a way to protect your houseplants from pests and pathogens while checking for overall plant health.
š§Foliar feeding
Giving your plants a Sacred Leaf shower treats them to beneficial nutrients. While the vast majority of nutrients (80-90%) are taken up through the tips of the roots, foliar feeding is an effective method of treating nutrient deficiencies while boosting plant growth, especially during times of stress (pest infestations, disease, transplanting or moving).
šLeaf Anatomy
Stomata are tiny openings (like the pores on our own skin) composed of living cells. Theyāre located on the epidermis of leaves, generally the bottom side of the leaf which protects them from extreme heat (sun) or from extreme airflow (wind). These openings are surrounded by guard cells which contain chloroplasts that are responsible for photosynthesis, the life giving energy of the plant. A vital function! These guard cells are also responsible for opening and closing the stoma, an important role for regulating hydration and gas exchange.
The leaf cuticle is the outermost layer of a leaf and a pathway of micro pores where most nutrient intake occurs, previously thought to be the function of the stoma.

šŖ“Bulbs, Tubers, Corms, Rhizomes, Stolons, Suckers and Offsets! We just updated our original blog post covering this subject, and it sounds a little like this:
Bulbs, tubers, rhizomes, and corms are often collectively referred to as ābulbsā as their basic functions serve similar purposes: to store food, water and minerals as energy and to give new life to the plant. Plus, they often look the same or have similar physical attributes.
True Bulbs are globe shaped with papery skin and made up of modified leaves that store nutrients and enclose around a vegetative growth point or flowering bud. Onions and amaryllis may be the most visually clear examples of true bulbs.
Examples of true bulbs include hyacinths, onion, garlic, amaryllis, shallots, tulips, daffodils, fritillaria and lilies
Corms look like true bulbs but are actually swollen base stems that store food for the plant during dormancy. Unlike true bulbs, corms are solid and often elongated in shape with a membranous or scaly texture. If youāve ever dug up your oxalis triangularis or looked closely at turmeric, these have the quintessential qualities of a corm.
Examples of corms include: alocasia, elephant garlic, oxalis, crocus, freesia, gladiolas, tuberous begonias, saffron crocus, water chestnut, ranunculus and celeriac just to name a few!

Highly rich in organic silica, horsetail has the unique ability to strengthen a plantās cellular wallāleading to stronger growth with sturdier stems and thicker leaves.

In nature, plants take care of plants. They communicate through underground networks, they climb all over each, and they protect one another.
This is how our houseplant tonics work too. Crafted thoughtfully by using the same compounds that plants create to protect and care for themselves. Plants growing plants ā»ļøšŖ“

Houseplants in their natural environment šæ
Hi friends, as some of you know, I needed a mental health break after some pretty serious immigration stress and I am lucky enough to have a relative on the big island who is hosting me for a few days! SO grateful for this lush, landscape and feeling once again, inspired by our wise, vibrant, precious natural world.
This is one of a few videos weāve posted over the years showing plants in their natural habitat to help raise awareness of how to better keep them in your homes. Please let us know if you enjoyed it!
Sending love, good energy and abundant growth to you all. šKarina
