Me and my partner, Scott Farber, at the U before we started . He’s my favorite surgery partner and we’ve done all sorts of surgeries together from microsurgery to cosmetic cases.

When I first saw that photo, my response was “I didn’t know I was that small!” As a medical student deciding what type of doctor I wanted to be, surgery didn’t seem like something people like me did. They were usually taller, male, extroverted and I wasn’t any of those things. And then I saw some female surgery residents right there with the guys and I felt like there was a chance that I could do it. That’s why I speak up and do outreach for women interested in medicine whenever I can. Maybe I can help someone else feel like they have a chance.

One year ago we opened . My official first day was a week and a half later which was also the first day of 2021 Snowmageddon/Snovid. We’ve been through a lot since then but it’s been fun because we have a great team!

Today’s cold and windy weather made me think of this photo… throwback to when I got the keys for our clinic. When I got the keys, I was by myself and I walked in alone into a completely empty and unrenovated space. Now, it is full of people and reflects who we are and how far we have come. and I chose every detail from the paint and pictures on the walls to the medical equipment to the people. It’s awesome to see a dream come to life.

I’m preparing for battle with breast capsular contracture.

This may look like a serious photo but what was really happening is there was a scrub shortage at the hospital. I was wearing XL scrubs instead of small ones. The head light battery clips onto my pants so the scrubs were taped up to prevent them from falling down.

Remember, things aren’t always what they seem in edited photos…

What will I look like after my Botox treatment? Can I go back to work?
This is me immediately after being injected. No filters and no light trickery. You can see the little spots on my forehead and cheek. (Forehead, glabella, and masseter were injected) I can go back to work.
Everyone responds differently but this is the typical response!

This is a pilomatricoma that I removed from a shoulder. It’s a benign tumor of the hair follicles and will not grow back once removed. Even though a small mass removal seems like a simple case, this is when we can focus on the details: Small, perfect incision, use of hooks to avoid damage to the skin, delicate dissection, minimal disruption of the mass, and precise suture placement. This patient was awesome and watched the whole thing from start to finish.

No, this isn’t a selfie! This is a photo taken by a three year old patient of mine with my camera (and me reaching for it before she drops it!) I take photos for clinical documentation on a regular basis. One of the ways I help the kids feel more comfortable with the camera is by taking photos of them smiling and showing them their photo. Sometimes they want to take photos of me! It’s interesting to see what they see

I was organizing my piano books today and came across a lot of books from different stages of my life. I have hundreds of books. I had forgotten how much work I had put into practicing over the past 36 years. I had also forgotten how much patience and grit I had to have to be able to play some of the pieces. It was a good reminder that things that are worthwhile take time and patience and what is easy now was once so hard before.

Kirschner wires, more commonly called K-wires, are stainless steel pins that are used for holding bones together. When someone says that they have "pins" in after hand surgery, they are often referring to these K-wires. The wires are placed in the bone using a drill that drives them into the hand. This is done under fluoroscopy so we can see exactly where the wire is going. Although they are most commonly used for broken bones, I use them for realignment of the bones and for internal splinting for pediatric burn reconstruction of the hand. In this fluoroscopy image ,the k-wire is buried under skin and is used to realign the thumb which had a significant extension contracture. K-wires can be buried under the skin or sticking out, depending on the situation. ⁠⁠
