Happy Easter! Right? That’s how you say it? 🐣🌷

I touched up about 8 inches of new growth on .jayy , definitely considered a color correction. However, this style of highlight allows a seamless and natural grow out which allows a lot of time between appointments if you’re a busy girlie. 💅🏽

I’m just a girl.

Sheesh has it been a wild first half of the year. Here’s a photo dump because I’m proud of the first meme I made. 😂

Part 3: the final edit of this little series.
(I could’ve made ten more, but your girl is tired and still running this production solo.)

Two weeks ago I started collecting stories from my salon chair to celebrate Luna Hair Studio turning 10 years old and the Season 1 finale of my podcast.

What I didn’t expect was realizing how much these conversations have shaped me.

Somewhere along the way, doing hair turned into holding space.
Into being someone people felt comfortable talking to.
Into being a friendly face during big moments in their lives.

And honestly… that means everything to me.

The Season 1 finale of Amber Talks Too Much drops tomorrow at 8 AM CST, where you’ll hear the full conversations from the clients featured here.

And to my regulars who weren’t able to be part of these recordings. our stories are just as meaningful.

This episode is dedicated to all of you who have sat in my chair over the last 10 years. ✨ Thank you. - Amber 🎂🍾✨💕

One-on-one time in the salon is sacred to me. It’s where we laugh, tell stories, and forget the outside world for a minute. Nothing bad happens in Barbie Land, right? 🫶🏽✨

Part 2 of this celebratory series!🎂

For two weeks I asked some of my regular clients to tell me their stories and memories they have sitting in my chair. To celebrate my salon Luna Hair Studio‘s 10th birthday, I wanted to celebrate the people who helped me reach this big milestone. My clients!

While we all know having pretty hair is important, I think a global pandemic taught us that connection was something we craved more than a blowout. And while all the years after 2020 were some of the hardest and scariest, they were the ones worth remembering and talking about. -Amber🌛✨💕

For my 10-year photo shoot, did I want to wear a black blazer and blow out candles in a dim spotlight? No.

When I opened Luna Hair Studio, I felt like a little girl trying on a woman’s heels. I wore the blazer. I had the wine glasses… with stems. But it didn’t take long for me to realize the universe wanted me exactly as I am.

Because while I am a businesswoman, I’m a creative and an artist first. 💅🏽

For the last 10 years, this salon has raised me. I’m 32 now, and 22-year-old me could not have imagined what was ahead of her. Breakups, grief, my 20s, my first apartment, a global pandemic, seven salon suites, leadership, community, and now a podcast rooted in what it means to build something from the ground up.

I’ve tried to define success in a hundred different ways, but I keep coming back to one word: resilience. My ability to adapt.

I’ve never done anything in a boring “professional” way. I love color, lavender, mid-century style, pop culture, being Mexican-American, being from San Antonio, and I love my salon. So I showed up to this shoot exactly as myself, and for once, I didn’t over-explain it.

I’ve overcome every statistic that should have counted me out, and I did it unapologetically. And it worked.
High school dropout.
No investors.
No college degree.
No built-in support system.

When that voice inside you tells you that you’re meant for something bigger, listen to her.

And still, Luna Hair Studio is part of the 35% of small businesses that made it to 10 years.

Quite frankly, she’s iconic. And she is that girl. 💅🏽

Happy birthday, Luna Hair Studio. Thank you for holding my hand into this next chapter of legacy, culture, and community.

While we celebrate notable women on International Women’s Day, I also want to celebrate the everyday woman.

The woman who sits in my chair tired from carrying so much. The one who holds space for everyone else in her life but rarely gets the same in return.

Being a hairstylist has given me the greatest gift I could imagine. I get to witness the strength, vulnerability, laughter, and resilience of women every single day.

Viva la mujer! 🌹

In the last few years I’ve heard a lot of jokes and eye rolls about “these new salon suite owners straight out of beauty school.”

How “irresponsible” it is to open a suite with no experience, no clientele, no “real” salon years under your belt.

I get where that comes from… but I can’t completely agree.

Customer service, professionalism, and adaptability are learned over time. They don’t magically appear just because you stayed in a commission salon for 5 years.

I’ve seen salon suite owners (myself included) keep their businesses alive for 5+ years and become the small business unicorns in the room. 🦄

On Monday, March 9, 2026, I hit my 10-year milestone as a salon suite owner.

I started my business at 22 years old with one person on my books.
No investors.
No savings.
No rich family members.
No relatives with business experience.
No college education.

I didn’t work with business coaches or mentors until last year. I didn’t even network til last year.
I really did start from the dirt up.

So this post isn’t coming from someone who did it “the right way.”
It’s for the ambitious new hairstylist who: hates being micromanaged, doesn’t last long in cowork spaces, and knows they’re meant to build something of their own

I opened my salon suite thinking, “Yes, no more boss.”

Plot twist: I don’t have one boss… I have several. They’re called clients. 😂

These are the 10 lessons I’ve learned in 10 years of business.
They’re not here to scare you. They’re here to give you:

✨ insight
✨ clarity
✨ hope
✨ and a small dose of reality

Because while I was learning color formulas and building a clientele, I was also going through all the messy 20 - something life stuff and trying to create an income and a legacy for myself at the same time.

If you’re a new or aspiring suite owner, save this for later.
If you’ve been in the industry a while, comment one thing you wish someone told you in your first year.
