‘I’ve been working with unusual diamonds throughout my entire jewelry-making career…diamond crystals, macle and sawn, old mine diamonds, rose cuts, Golconda, tablets, unusual colors: black, desert, salt and pepper, opalescent…I love it all. Between their carbon markings or their slight opalescence I see the tale of the ages. These diamonds have taken millennia to create, and the idea that somebody could wear something so old and so magical is exciting to me.
The diamonds in this necklace have taken me over a decade to collect. Each one of these diamonds created from ancient organic matter formed in the earth’s mantle billions of years ago and then shot to the surface of the earth through volcanic elevators…this is pure enchantment and to be able to wear something this unique is truly exciting - this is my little Sir David Attenborough moment…This ordered chaos of diamonds in this necklace took hours and hours of placement and change. ‘Working primarily in 18k gold, Holly approaches design from a “materials up” perspective and is drawn to “minimally interfered with material,” like polki diamonds and raw, untreated gemstones, which she pairs with perfectly cut specimens and unites with richly textured precious metals. Carefully selecting each component part of her designs based on the function it can serve in the whole, Holly applies her deeply sculptural sensibility to the creation of timeless, sensorial compositions, symphonies of contrast and complement evoked in each one-of-a-kind creation’ —Michelle Orman
