Microcurrent Body Sculpturing is an adjunct to regular exercise, a healthy diet and other healthy lifestyle choices. Microcurrent is often confused with TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) and EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) devices. TENS and EMS devices can cause muscle contraction. TENS appears to work by interfering with pain messages traveling to the Central Nervous System. EMS devices exercise muscles and is commonly used for rehabilitation following an injury. Unlike TENS and EMS, Microcurrent has a healing effect on the local tissue and does not cause muscle contraction.

Microcurrent Facial Rejuvenation Treatment
Keeping It Clean

Health and skin care professionals often ask if they should use probes (aka wands) with q-tips, metal ball tips or gloves for the microcurrent facial treatment. To achieve results, companies may offer the following accessories for their unit to improve skin texture and balance the muscles of the face. These accessories are the same accessories used in treating medical conditions and are adapted for use in aesthetics. They include:

*Hand held probes (aka wands) with single and double tips designed for q-tip insertion for improved muscle function and balance

*Metal (brass) ball tips in three sizes, narrow, medium and large

*Electrode bar for lengthening and shortening the Platysma muscle

*Carbon and Silver Gloves for quick facial rejuvenation treatment

The main difference between sterilizing and disinfecting is that sterilization is the process of killing all microorganisms and their spores on a surface or object. Disinfecting eliminates most harmful microorganisms but does not eliminate spores from inanimate objects and surfaces.

Metal ball tips and gloves are commonly disinfected after use and then reused on patients. When treating body areas such as the thigh, arm, leg and back, it is relatively safe to use disinfectant on equipment because these areas of the body are not near orifices. However, working close to orifices such as the nose, mouth and eyes as occurs during a microcurrent facial treatment understandably presents a stringent need for sterilization of equipment. Metal balls can be sterilized with an autoclave. Carbon gloves are too delicate for sterilization. Unless the professional takes the precaution of using an autoclave to sterilize equipment, the only safe use of accessories on the face are the hand held probes designed for q-tip insertion.
