Most overwhelmed nervous systems don’t just need another supplement.
They need:
* sleep
* safety
* nourishment
* minerals
* stable blood sugar
* sunlight
* support
* less constant input
But some herbs and nutrients really can help support a stressed, depleted system.
Some of my favorites for nervous system support:
🌿 magnesium glycinate
🌿 mineral-rich herbal teas
🌿 omega-3s
🌿 electrolytes/mineral support
You’ll notice I didn’t list Ashwagandha (a popular Adaptogen known for nervous system support). I personally have not had great results with it and literature does reflect this as well! As someone with PCOS I actually found it to make me more irritable. Interestingly, research shows that for hormone sensitive individuals (like many women) it can raise testosterone. Additionally, for individuals with any potential or diagnosed autoimmune diseases (lupus, hashimotos, rheumatoid arthritis) it can actually overstimulate the immune system and make symptoms worse. While I know plenty of people swear by it, it’s just not my first choice 😊
A regulated nervous system is built through consistent signals of safety and nourishment—not perfection.
(Especially during pregnancy/postpartum, always check with your provider before starting herbs or supplements.)

Trying to take multiple supplements while physiologically depleted is the same as trying to give fertilizer to a dying plant that is locked in a closet with no water or fresh air. Honestly, it sounds funny but that is what everyone is trying to do lately! Outsmart physiology with the next supplement or "hack."
Our bodies are wise and self correcting. Sometimes the "boring" foundational recommendations truly are the most impactful.
Other foundational elements to consider include:
*gentle and safe movement daily
*daily sunlight, especially early morning sunlight
*forest bathing (literally just standing in a forest near trees) or going to the beach
*limiting sensory input (decrease noise, clutter, screens)
*purpose + meaning (consider volunteering, writing, drawing, finding ways to help others in small ways)
The core truth:
A healthy nervous system is not built from a new supplement. Supplements can support the system but they can not replace the conditions that humans actually need to feel well.
It's built from:
*safety
*nourishment
*rhythm
*support
*connection
*recovery

Do you find yourself searching for the next version of yourself? How often have you said, “I’ll be happier when [x].”
What if instead of looking for the next change or fix you need, you looked deeper inside yourself.
Start here ⬇️
1. Close your eyes for 2-3 minutes
2. Envision a time from your childhood where you were TRULY and deeply happy
3. Feel into that joy
4. Identify what you were doing
5. Make a plan on how you can incorporate that into your life now as an adult
Example: As a young girl and teenager I used to love taking ceramics classes. I could literally stay in the studio the entire day and it would feel like 5 minutes passed by. Recently I started taking classes again and guess what? It STILL brings such joy!
Challenge:
Can you peel back the layers of who you became, to find who you once were? And yes, I realize that many of us have worked very hard to become the new and improved versions of ourselves. And if you’re totally happy then YAY! But if you’re reading this, chances are you might be looking for more. So if that’s you, then this is a great first place to start 🤍
