Still using topical steroid creams?
While topical steroids can be very effective for calming inflammation and relieving flare-ups, they aren’t a long-term cure for the underlying cause of many skin conditions.
With prolonged or frequent use, they may increase the risk of side effects such as:
• Skin thinning
• Redness, burning, or topical steroid withdrawal (TSW)
• Spider veins and discoloration
• Delayed healing and weakened skin barrier
• Increased risk of infection
• Eye complications when used near the eyes
Some ways to reduce the risk of side effects include:
✔️ Use the lowest effective strength.
✔️ Avoid long-term continuous use.
✔️ Don’t stop suddenly after prolonged use—work with your provider on a gradual taper.
