Nubian Nails by Niecy

The French manicure is called that because its American creator, Jeff Pink, dubbed it that after taking the look to Paris for a fashion show, where it became popular and was embraced by the fashion world. The style was enthusiastically adopted by Parisian models and the fashion scene. After returning to Los Angeles, Pink began calling it the “French manicure” to capitalize on the association with Parisian fashion, which made it sound more chic and international.

Despite the name, French nails weren’t born in France. The design originated in Hollywood in 1977 when movie directors asked Jeff Pink, founder of ORLY, to create a nail look that would work with frequent costume changes on set. His solution—a white tip with a neutral base—became known as the “natural nail look”.
