Marketing is the BUSINESS
Spray Tanning is just the skill

Marketing is a journey not a destination. You will never be done with figuring out how to fund more clients. The sooner you accept that the more fun this becomes!

One of my favorite parts of every mentorship call is hearing a woman’s why.

Why she decided to start a spray tan business.
Why this new chapter matters to her.
Why she chose me to help guide her through it.

Every woman comes with a different story, a different dream, and a different reason for building something of her own. Getting to be a small part of those stories is something I never take for granted.

Being a spray tan educator is about so much more than teaching technique. It is about helping women build confidence, create opportunities, and believe that their business can become something meaningful.

These conversations will always be my favorite part of the calls. 🤎

What is the “why” behind your business?

There is nothing better than getting to the end of a spray tan and seeing those clean tan lines.

This is the part of training I love so much because students get to see how all the little details come together.

The distance.
The speed.
The angle.
The blending.
The solution choice.
The body positioning.
The areas you slow down on.
The areas you don’t overthink.

It all matters.

And when you finally step back and see a smooth, even tan with those pretty spray tan lines… that’s when it clicks.

Because I don’t want you leaving training just saying, “I sprayed a model.”

I want you leaving proud of your work.

I want you to understand why it turned out the way it did, what you did well, and how to recreate that result with confidence on future clients.

That’s the difference between just learning the motions and actually becoming a spray tan artist.

Stop heel creasing before it starts. Keep your clients feet flat on the ground during the entire application.

Yes I did this when I sprayed myself lol

Your before + after photos might be attracting clients…

But they also might be quietly repelling them.

If every result you post is on a “perfect” body, with perfect posing, perfect lighting, and perfect angles, the women who are already nervous to book may be thinking:

“Do clients like me even go there?” “Will she judge my body?” “Am I going to feel uncomfortable?” “Does she only work on women who already look confident?”

And that matters.

Because so many women are already walking into a spray tan appointment feeling insecure, vulnerable, and unsure if they can trust someone to see their body.

Your Instagram should still look beautiful.
Your feed can still feel polished and on-brand.

But your content should also show that you work with real women.

Different bodies.
Different shapes.
Different skin tones.
Different ages.
Different comfort levels.

Because when a potential client sees someone who looks a little more like her, she starts to feel safer.

She starts to think, “Okay, maybe this is a place for me too.”

Spray tanning is not about only showcasing perfection.

It’s about helping women feel confident in the body they already have.

So don’t limit your portfolio to only the “ideal” before + afters.

Show real results on real bodies, in a respectful and professional way.

That is how you build trust before someone ever books with you.

And that trust is what turns nervous followers into loyal clients. 🤎

Behind the scenes of spray tan training day

This is where students start realizing there is so much more to a great spray tan than just spraying solution on skin.

We talk through the model, the skin, the placement, the angles, the distance, the blending, the pressure, the hands, the feet, the little areas most people rush through… all of it.

Because my goal is never for you to leave training thinking, “Okay, I watched someone spray tan.”

My goal is for you to leave thinking, “I understand what I’m doing, why I’m doing it, and how to make decisions when every client is different.”

That’s the difference between learning a basic routine and learning how to become a confident spray tan artist.

And yes, we are absolutely going to stop mid-demo and talk about the tiny details.

That’s where the good stuff is.

Spray tan artists… hands like this are preventable.

And I’ll be honest, this is one of those things I always look at because details matter.

Clients may not know exactly what went wrong, but they know when their hands look orange, muddy, or NOT BLENDED

Hands require strategy — not just “spray and hope.”

A few ways to prevent this:

✔️ Use barrier cream correctly
✔️ Lighten your pressure on hands and wrists
✔️ Feather product instead of fully saturating
✔️ Blend knuckles, wrists, and between fingers
✔️ Watch your client’s hand position
✔️ Wipe where product should not develop

This is why true spray tan education matters.

It’s not just about spraying a body.

It’s knowing where to pull back, where to blend, where product grabs darker, and how to prevent the obvious mistakes before they happen.

One of the biggest mistakes I see new spray tan artists make?

They think growing a business means constantly spending money.

A new machine.
A new solution.
A new app.
Another training.
Another gadget.

And before they know it, they've spent thousands... but haven't actually grown their business.

The truth is, some of the most successful artists I know aren't the ones with the most expensive setups.

They're the ones who know how to be resourceful.

They buy smart.
They learn how to market without spending a fortune.
They build relationships.
They use what they already have.
They focus on profit—not just purchases.

Saving money in your business isn't about being cheap.

It's about making strategic decisions that allow you to keep more of what you earn.

Which slide hit home for you the most? 👇
