Most nail techs are focused on wattage and nanometers… but that is not what guarantees a proper cure.
A gel product cures correctly based on several factors:
• Correct wavelength range
• Proper UV irradiance
• Enough exposure time
• Thin product application
• Product color and opacity
• Proper lamp compatibility
Nanometers are only one piece of the puzzle. A lamp can have the “right” nanometer number and still not properly cure the product if the UV output is too low or the layer is too thick.
The thicker the product, the harder it is for UV light to pe*****te through all layers. This is why builder gel, dark colors, glitter, black, red, brown, and heavily pigmented products can be more difficult to cure correctly.
Another important fact: wattage does NOT equal curing power. Wattage only tells you how much electricity the lamp uses, not how much UV energy reaches the nail plate.
Improper curing can lead to lifting, poor retention, product breakdown, allergies, and skin reactions.
Safe nail services are not only about beautiful nails. They are about proper education, correct application, and understanding how products truly work.
