One day, I'm gonna talk about this incredibly stressful experience I'm going through with my academic career. Cliff note version is that for the last 3 years, I've been treated unfairly and sabotaged left and right at my current institution. I decided to stop going in during the day to avoid the negative energy and that translated to my research lab, where I wasn't doing any work.

In truth, I was conducting experiments at night. I would have my baby sleeping on a couch in my lab as I was working with these specimens. I bought her little gloves and had her pipetting next to me in the sterile hood in an effort to get work done AT NIGHT.

I was still accused of "not doing anything." I found myself begging to be allowed to show my work. But no one would listen. So I used my network and cold-called the Dean of Chemistry at Vanderbilt, and I told him about my idea. He was thrilled and invited me over. I just needed a mentor who believed in me, that wouldnt tell me "you think you know everything."

I kept working, in silence.

I kept running on 3 hours of sleep.

I kept building my business, in the background. I took a break from Organics....I reduced my clientele for Hair By Jamille to focus on this research that i was being accused of not doing.

On Friday, March 13th, I thought I was walking into a meeting to finally show my work. Instead, I was blindsided with news that i was being put on academic admin leave, and I have not set foot on campus since then. In that meeting, I actually printed out details of my data. Everyone got a copy AFTER I was given the decision. Then there was a change of heart. A review was now needed.

Because remember, I was accused of not doing anything. This was March... and today, I get this email that the collaborative effort that I set up paid off.

I don't think y'all really understand how deep my disdain is for AI generated photos of locs that people are using to sell their work or product.

How hard is it to take a picture of your ACTUAL WORK?!?

Sure, use ai to clean up the lighting and background. But I find it highly unethical to sell a class training or installation service using fake photos of your work. There are many other great functions for AI but I'll never get on board with posting fake work as my own. If your work is cold enough to even entertain selling it as a class, why are you afraid to show it?
