Have you heard of diastasis recti before?
If your answer is no, then please read this.
Diastasis recti is a common condition in pregnant and postpartum people. Pregnancy puts a lot of pressure on your abdomen (abs). The abdomen is made up of left and right ab muscles and a thin band of connective tissue (linea alba) in between. They are pushed outward and stretched to make room for the growing baby. Diastasis recti occurs when the linea alba is overstretched and doesn't come back together. The left and right sides of the abdominals stay separated. This separation can make a person's belly stick out or bulge months or years postpartum.
Diastasis recti usually develops in the third trimester. There is increased pressure on the abdominal wall because the baby is growing quickly during this time.
It affects 60% of people.
So if you see a woman whose stomach hasn't gone in months or even years after having a baby then she might have a condition called diastasis recti.
I know so many people do not know this. Just because your belly went it immediately after child birth and someone else's stomach still look big doesn't mean the person is at fault, she may be experiencing this condition.
So please let's be careful about the way we talk to people, let's not call them mean names, we don't know what that person is going through at the moment or what the person is doing at the moment to rectify the issue.
Our mental health status differs.
The good news is diastasis recti can be fixed. Someone that has diastasis recti can either correct it with surgery or just by doing certain types of exercises.
In my next post, I am going to show you how I healed my diastasis recti in just 30days.
