Today is the 56th anniversary of the Kent State shootings. Today the University received the collection of Alan Canfora’s vast research and documentation of the tragedy. Here is a photo of Alan on that day in 1970. Alan Canfora was a dear friend of mine. May God bless his soul and those of all who died that day. May this day serve as a reminder of what can go wrong when we stop listening to each other, political division defines us and dysfunctional command leads to disaster. May we never forget May 4, 1970. I know I never will.
