A gorgeous little mid-bridesmaid makeup moment from the weekend! šŸ’„šŸ«¶
We were going for a bit of a more natural glam with this bridesmaid, just because she was a bit younger and I didn’t want to have the makeup age her, just enhance her natural beauty.. 🄰

Hi! I’m MarlenĆ© (aka marle_glam on socials for the past few years), and this is my client page. But first, let me tell you a bit about myself.

I’m a 24 year old, self taught makeup artist from the Garden Route area in the Western Cape. As a teen, I was obsessed with makeup but never bought or wore any myself, I was a bit scared of what people might say.
By the time I went to university, I’d started feeling a bit more free to explore my passions, and within a few months I was living off 2 minute noodles because I’d spend all my money on new makeup products, watching YouTube videos in my room to learn how to use all of them.
Within a few short years, I graduated from doing my makeup in my room with all the neutrals, to exploring and having fun with colours. I’d started to migrate into the ā€˜influencer’ aspect of doing makeup and had worked with a few brands.
I also realised that so many girls want to look pretty for events, but mua’s in Stellenbosch were so expensive that we’d all just do our own and go with it. So, I started doing event makeup for friends and their friends, and before I knew it, I was booked out for House Dance season (I’m talking doing makeup for 10 hours a day, running around from accommodation to accommodation all over campus with my kit bag, which weighed like 8kg or something).
Working with so many different women in that time taught me so much more than any course ever could, and I believe that’s my strength as an artist, learning on the job, working under time pressures and rolling with the punches (because sometimes the look a client wanted, isn’t what they really want in the end, and we get to start again). I’ve also had to deal with my own skin struggles (from acne to perfectly clear skin, and even dealing with my genetic skin condition for three years that made all makeup look bad), which helped me to learn how to make almost any skin texture work with makeup.

When the pandemic hit, I started focusing more on my own makeup, and obviously with no events taking place, I didn’t do clients for a long time.
But, in the last 6 months I’d started taking clients on again, and the passion I had helping women feel beautiful in their own skin on special dates blossomed again!
I’m so excited to see where this new journey takes me, and to share all of the beautiful faces that I get to work on.

Much love,
MarlenƩ xx
