Government to host expo for make up artists, hair dressers, beauty professionals

GOVERNMENT says it will this year host a national cosmetology expo aimed at promoting skills, creativity and business growth in the beauty industry.

Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Subeta Mutelo said the event will provide a platform for make up artists, hairdressers and nail technicians to showcase their products and services.

Speaking at an Entrepreneurs Business Brunch in Lusaka yesterday, hosted by businesswoman Sarah Mako, Mutelo said the expo is intended to elevate the cosmetology sector and create new opportunities for practitioners.

“We want to create a platform where make-up artists, hairdressers and nail technicians can come forward and showcase their skills, their products and their creativity,” she said.

She added that the initiative is part of broader efforts to recognise skills-based professions as viable sources of income and employment.

“We all need to have a skill, and cosmetology is one of the fastest-growing sectors. This expo will not only boost businesses but also encourage innovation and confidence among young people,” Mutelo said.

In a light remark, she added: “I actually did my own make up and it shows that these are skills anyone can learn and turn into a business.”

Meanwhile, Mutelo urged entrepreneurs to take advantage of the K515 million set aside this year to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

She encouraged entrepreneurs to engage directly with the ministry to better understand how to access funding and other forms of support.

She observed that most entrepreneurs do not read or research, hence, opportunities seem to be far fetched for them.

“This year alone, government has allocated K515 million to support MSMEs. This shows how central small businesses are to our economic growth agenda,” she said.

“The ministry is here for you. We urge business owners to visit our offices, ask questions and position themselves to benefit from these opportunities,” she said.

Mutelo noted that many entrepreneurs miss out on support due to a lack of information or reluctance to engage with institutions.

“Most entrepreneurs are not aware of the support systems available, while others hesitate to come forward. These resources are meant for you, and we want you to benefit,” she said.

She also stressed the importance of formalising businesses and maintaining proper records.

“You need to prepare your business for growth. Register it, keep proper books and be ready when opportunities arise,” she added.

The event brought together entrepreneurs from across Zambia, offering a platform for networking, mentorship and the exchange of ideas.

Hair and Scalp Care.
Rescuing Damaged and Stagnant Hair. ✨

To revitalize your hair, consider the following steps:
👉🏼Take a break from using blow dryers, curling or straightening irons and opt for braids and cornrows instead.

👉🏼To stimulate natural oil production on the scalp, regular scalp massages once a week are recommended.

👉🏼For individuals with color-treated hair, weekly conditioning treatments can help add moisture and counteract dryness caused by certain chemicals in dyes.

👉🏼Additionally, perform a hot oil treatment once a month by warming a mixture of oils such as avocado oil, tea tree oil, olive oil, and coconut oil to a skin-safe temperature. Massage the oil into your scalp and hair, let it set for 30 minutes, and then rinse off.

Why should you condition your hair?

🌟Conditioners reduce hair breakage and split ends caused by dryness, by penetrating and working on the cuticles of your hair shaft.
