A Call to Action to Protect Children

Zambia is facing a devastating crisis of child r**e, with alarming numbers of children falling victim to this heinous crime. The trauma and suffering inflicted on these young victims is immeasurable, and it is imperative that we take immediate action to stop this scourge.

R**e is a crime that shatters lives, leaving deep physical and emotional scars. When the victim is a child, the trauma is even more profound, with long-lasting effects on their emotional, psychological, and social well-being. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that one in five girls and one in ten boys experience sexual violence before the age of 18.

In Zambia, the statistics are equally disturbing. According to the Zambia Police Service, over 1,000 cases of child r**e were reported in 2022 alone. This number is likely a fraction of the true total, as many cases go unreported due to fear, shame, or lack of access to justice.

The causes of child r**e are complex and multifaceted. Poverty, lack of education, and social inequality all contribute to an environment in which children are vulnerable to exploitation. However, there is no excuse for this crime, and perpetrators must be held accountable.

We must also recognize the critical role that men play in preventing child r**e. Men must be part of the solution, using their influence and power to promote positive social norms and protect children from harm.

The fight to stop child r**e in Zambia requires a collective effort from government, civil society, traditional leaders, and individuals. We must work together to create a society that values and protects the rights of all children.

Let us join forces to stop child r**e in Zambia. Let us create a world where children can grow up safe, free from fear, and full of hope for a brighter future.
